The best thing about Nefry's Retreat is the beautiful family that runs it!

As other people have mentioned, the next best thing is it's location: the fact that it is away from the hustle bustle and noise of downtown St. Ignacio. It is the perfect walk into town and if you don't count or can ignore the dog that barked incessantly most of the night, the location IS perfect. I finally turned the window air conditioner on "fan only" and it was noisy enough (Room 3) to provide white noise that drowned out the dog.

Our accommodations were liveable. The following description is not necessarily a deal breaker for many people. If you are looking for a bargain, this is it. Nefry's Retreat was the cheapest room we stayed in in Belize by half so one can't very well expect luxury accommodations (although the sheets were very fine quality).

The room itself can only be described as funky. The "kitchenette" did not have any means of heating food and there was no hot water in the sink. The water dispenser leaked a huge puddle and so did its replacement. The table did not have any chairs, but they were provided when we requested them. The bathroom floor was not particularly clean. The hot water in the shower took a long time to reach temperature and then fluctuated wildly. Bath towels were thin but I think that is for ease of drying. There were no wash cloths provided unless requested. The white floor tiles in the main room were extremely slick to the point of being dangerous. I made a mistake and hand washed some clothes. They took three days to dry with a fan and the window unit on full time and the humidity was such that I finally had to open the louvered windows and then the barking could not be mitigated.

We spent four nights at Nefry's and absolutely loved it. The rooms were clean and we had everything we needed. The refrigerator was awesome along with the purified water tank! Jaime directed us to some local places that had fantastic food and the fruit at the market was some of the best that I have ever eaten (thank goodness for the refrigerator). Jaime picked us up at the airport and we knew exactly who to go with (and he drove safely!). He stopped at the Belize Zoo on the way and waited for us to walk through. His family was adorable and made the stay more homey. He was full of helpful information to make our trip fantastic. Nefry's was in town and an easy walk to shopping and food - it immersed us more in the culture and we fell in love with San Ignacio. (Also there were no bugs or cockroaches - extreme pro for me). We would not stay anywhere else when we return.

We stayed at Nefry's for one night and found it a good, comfortable place a little bit out of the way in San Ignacio, which is good because downtown can get noisy. Still, it's only a 5 minute walk to the main drag. A little hard to find, I'd recommend asking the hotel for directions.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms had a/c and the showers were great. Rooms are pretty large. There is even a large water cooler in each room. The owners were very friendly, giving us good advice about dining options and directions. We did reserve two rooms with four beds and found only one bed per room when we arrived. However, this was quickly changed in about five minutes. The owners also let us bring in our car into the locked driveway. Checking in and out was a breeze. A good options for just about everyone with great value.

We spent 4weeks here with our staff from the UK doing volunteer work and we couldn't have wished for more. Nefrys is family run and this family is second to none. Nancy & Jaimie and their beautiful kids couldn't have done more for us. They organised trips, transport and doctors and assisted all of us with our individual requests whatever we needed. Nefrys is only a 5 min stroll to the main shops & restaurants. Although there is no pool there is easy access to hotels close by you can use with pools for a small charge? The rooms are spacious & clean with hot & cold drinking water, AC and Wifi. There is a patio/seating area with dappled sunlight which is great for relaxing. Value for money I don't think Nefrys Retreat could be beaten.

Room Tip: There is one room that has a small kitchen area with fridge, which is useful if not wanting to eat o...

We stayed at Nefry's Retreat over the New Year, found it to be very comfortable, and the owner very helpful on advice in the area and any other queries we had, even offering his personal phone when needing to call my bank from overseas regarding a stolen credit card which was lovely. It is a 5 minute walk from the centre of town, rooms were big with adequate amenities and good value.
