I'm glad Ranguana Lodge is still there, still looks the same. Wonder if the "Leslies" are still involved. I/we stayed there a number of times over the years. Always drove down from Oregon or Wisconsin or Arizona in my motorhome. The cabins are simply lovely, private, comfortable and a gentle slice of paradise.
I love Belize and Placencia has been my favorite Belize hangout over the years. Walking distance down the longest Conch shell sidewalk (hurricane disrupted occasionally and re-layed) to anywhere Placencia of interest. In my view.
When I first went there I had to buy butter in a can because there was no refrigeration at the only market. Plenty of beer if you like Belikin beer ( and I do...thank you Bowen family) and always rum somewhere.
Over the years the infrastructure improved...internet cafes, more restaurants with passable, then fair, then Great food...magnificent shrimp farmed locally...and really, really good times.
Trips out to Laughing Bird Caye (booked in town) where where I got a bit far from the shore and faced down a giant (so it seemed at the time) Reef shark as I looked it eye to eye while swimming slowly backward toward the Caye. A bit frantic I told my guide "Shark! Big! There!" while pointing at water behind me.
The older guide said something like "Oh, that's just Ralph. He won't hurt you unless he's really hungry and you're bleeding"
I said "that's really encouraging" and walked across the island and snorkeled on the other side where I ran into a monster Spotted Eagle Ray which was far prettier and far less heart thumping.

Room Tip: Just look. Wander around and check things out. We're talking about paradise here so let your inn...

Ranguana Lodge is the perfect beach getaway for Placencia and Southern Belize! Located right on the beach and central to the heart of Placencia. The cabanas offer everything you need including AC, a small kitchen, and beach. Just bring a toothbrush and a great bikini and you're set. East-facing offers wonderful quiet mornings of sun and warmth on the porches. Kitchen is perfect for those mornings alone. Coffeemaker included.

Ranguana Lodge is on the east side/Beach side of Placencia. Keep in mind, the main street is a more about the walkway and less about the actually main street. The walkway is a proper poured cement sidewalk whereas the main street is the dirt road through town. It's located to keep you away form the noise of cars and trucks and near the breezes of the beach. Still, the whole of town is walk-able.

WiFi provided reaches each cabana. In-cabana modern safe provides a good piece of mind for your cash and valuables. Cleaning services are friendly and flowers on the fresh linens provide a nice touch. This is not a typical all-inclusive, high-priced compound but rather a piece of local flare, wake with the birds kind of gig. Pricing certainly reflects that.

Our only complaint was the occasional noise picked up from the restaurant adjacent. The music was sometimes a bit on the loud side for early bedtime seekers. Nothing serious and the noise generally didn't go past 10pm'ish. How often do you get a chance for reggae lullaby?

No regrets and perfect for those looking for the non-westernized, Belizian, local experience!

Room Tip: The beach-front cabanas are only mildly more preferable as they offer a better 180-deg beach view.

We were looking for a place that was at the beach front and in the center of the village. I can tell you that Ranguana Lodge more than met our expectations. The cabins were great, clean, and comfortable. Sometimes you are looking for a great experience and you are lucky enough to find just that. That was Ranguana Lodge. We take our vacations only at Thanksgiving and always go to some where we haven't been before. We are planning and looking forward to returning to the Lodge for another great time.

If I could give Ranguana Lodge a 10, I would! We (3 couples) rented the 2 beachfront cabanas and one garden cabana for 12 days. The cabanas were perfect and included everything we needed: a small kitchenette with stove, fridge, microwave. This was great when we needed to make dinner instead of going out. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was small but so clean! AC worked perfectly, but really didn't need it on several nights as the ocean breeze was sufficient...and who doesn't want to fall asleep listening to the waves. And the front porch was essential for relaxing in the hammock.
The couple in the garden cabana loved it as well. They didn't miss the AC as fans were enough. And the gardens were beautiful!
The cabanas were cleaned every day and returned to just as spotless as when we checked in. Thanks ladies!
The location, in our opinion, was the best on the beach. Barefoot Bar and Tipsy Tuna was close, but never a problem. If we wanted to go there, it was just a short walk and if we didn't -- well, we could just sit on our beach and listen to the music from there. It was never too loud for us and quiet at 11 p.m. anyway.
The beach was always clean. It was very windy for quite a few days, so the seaweed gathers on the shoreline. We just jumped over it and into the water - many times with the tubes provided by the office. We found traffic on the beach to be minimal, which made it very peaceful for us as we felt like the beach was ours!
Staff were great. We had a mix up with Tropic Air; Joy and her office staff were diligent in making sure it got resolved. Thanks so much Joy! We felt that we were really taken care of well.
Hubert, Marlin and Edward took care of us with grounds-keeping and security. We always felt safe. They all made a point to remember our names and chatted with us each day. Thanks!
The location of Ranguana Lodge was excellent. Just a short walk via the sidewalk (or street) to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, shops and of course, just steps from the sea. We feel that we got the best place in Placencia and couldn't be happier!

Room Tip: Choose the ocean front cabanas if you want AC and to be right on the sea.

Had the opportunity to spend a few nights in Placencia at the Ranguana Lodge and it was a great experience. The check in was super easy with friendly staff to faciliatate the check in. The cabin we stayed in was a garden view and it was a great cabin. Super clean, small kitchenette, great views and steps to the beach. It also had a small veranda with a hammock. The lodge was close to de-Tatch, The Barefoot and Tipsy Tuna and while the music was loud it wasn't really a problem. The lodge is also perfectly situated in the town. Overall, a great place!

Room Tip: All the cabins are great but if you need a beach view or to be right on the beach then ask for a bea...
