A little difficult to find but well worth it. Don't be put off by the drive in. The neighborhood people are friendly and were great with directions. "The Gringos big blue house". Right on the beach! The best B&B hosts we have ever met. Mike is a great cook and Mae an absolutely delightful host. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Rooms were very clean. We felt like we have known Mike & Mae forever and we were staying with old friends. We will definitely be back.

Rather than get the early ferry from the Bay Island of Utila for our flight we opted for a stayover. Had we known how nice this place was we would have spent more time here. Given the cost of the rooms it was well worth it. Mike & Mae were really nice - it felt like you were staying with friends, Mike picked us up from the ferry and dropped us at the airport at no extra cost and breakfast was included. We opted for dinner at the B&B and Mike whipped up a huge feast of lasagna, garlic bread and salad. We served ourselves and had 2nd's too - Mike is a good cook. We would definitely choose to stay here again.

Mike and Mae are darling people.
They made Ensuenos feel like home - see ya home sickness!
They watch out for all of their guests in regards to transportation, accommodation, meals, booking tours, anything you can think of they're willing to help!

8 Lempira to hop on the bus which picks you up right outside of the house? PERFECT.
Having a 5 mile long beach to walk along safely everyday? PERFECT.
Even having some midday entertainment as the local fishermen bring in their boat. LOVELY.

Yes it isn't in the greatest of neighbourhoods but if you can't appreciate the beauty and kindness of those people (Not everyone in a labelled "bad" neighbourhood are bad people..) if and you are that closed minded, what are you doing travelling to a third world country..

They put a lot of love into their business which is what makes it an amazing place.
Ensuenos is a little treasure to find in Dontillo.
I traveled solo and it was the perfect match and location for me (an explorer).
100% Recommend staying here.

the beds are sooo comfy, mike is a great cook, and rooms are clean and comfortable. they have a nice pool, a/c, hammocks in the shade, ocean kayaks, and a beautiful horse. we planned on staying one night on our way to roatan, and ended up staying almost a week. we did something fun every day (hiking to waterfalls, sea kayaking, ziplining, bbques with the neighbors...) we even bought lobster directly from the ocean just as the boat was coming in. super fresh!
m&m are absolutely *wonderful* people, soo helpful in navigating the area, and have great references for fun things to do nearby (there is also a bus to town that stops at their front gate). we enjoyed our stay so much, we had to stop by on our way back through the mainland from roatan. will definitely go back, even if we have to make a detour. we were really treated like family.
stay here if you're looking for the perfect jump off point to the bay islands, or plan to spend some time in la ceiba. i dont think you can find a better place to land.

This is a hard reveiw to do. Mike and Mae are trying hard to rehab the house and make a go of it as a bed and breakfast. The good news is that it has a nice pool (the beach is not good for swimming here) and the hosts are very good at working around the travelers' schedule. They can make breakfast or dinner at most anytime in order to get you to your tour or ferry on time. The traffic in La Ceiba is pretty bad. The police checkpoints at the bridge on the main drag into town slow traffic to a crawl. The best taxi drivers drive mostly in the ditch to get around the stopped traffic. This bed and breakfast is down a bad road and in a neighborhood that is not terribly comfortable for tourists to be walking around in. There is really no other option for breakfast or dinner if you are at the house. We were the only ones staying there at the time , which is nice so that we didn't have to share the bathroom. This is probably a good place for adults who may want to party some. The hosts smoke so that is not a problem. We arranged a great tour to the Cayos Cachinos (hog island snorkling) from here that was fantastic. We were able to take the local bus into La Ceiba for the day; all local women on the bus and it gets packed. They were all very concerned that a couple of gringos would know how to get back to the house, which was nice. When we were on the street in La Ceiba, people would start coming up to us around 5:00 p.m. to say that we should be getting home, that it was going to "get too hot for you here, and we aren't talking about the temperature. " We appreciated the advise and took heed of it. We probably would have bypassed La Ceiba , but it is the best place to catch the ferry to the bay islands. Ensuenos arranged to have a taxi pick us up from the bus station, but the price was not really determined until we got there. These guys are still learning about running a bed and breakfast, but this is probably still a good choice for experienced adult travelers. The rooms are reasonably priced and dinner was around $7-8. Hosts are American and do not speak much Spanish. There is a stream on one side of the property where the local fisherman take their boats out on the Ocean everyday.

Room Tip: Make sure that you don't have to share a bathroom. All rooms appear to be quiet.

Ohla boys. Thanks for taking the time to do a review on our little peice of paradise. I'm stumped. Where do I start. Any city in any country has it's areas you don't go into including the city you live in. I've walked through most of downtown La Ceiba at night and never had a problem and I'm 15 years older than either of you. On the bus, the traffic sucks even more if you're driving. Nothing wrong with a bus filled with women heading into town to shop or work. That is what they are there for. The bus is a milk run stopping often during the trip and is clearly marked Ponce-Dontillo-Downtown and stops at our front gate. I take it to town and back myself. The police, like anywhere are there to protect and they do a pretty good job even if they do slow traffic to a crawl on occasion. It's part of being in a third world country. Your rating on cleanliness I hope is for the city and not our B&B. You were ask if you wanted your room cleaned daily and you chose only one time to have it done. If you had ask we would have cleaned it twice a day. The taxi ride, well your bus was LATE and the driver had to make two trips to pick you up. If I remember correctly he left the price up to you and didn't charge for two trips. On our lovely road, IT SUCKS. Every resort in this state (Atlantadia) that's not on the main road is on a DIRT ROAD including some in our area that start at 5 times our price and do not offer a/c and is a longer drive. We enjoyed having you two stay with us and if you return I hope things will be more to your liking. Thanks again, Captain Mike
