The grandkids love this place. We had our lunch picnic here. The zoo has animal you would not expect. Nice getaway worth the trip

My husband and I had the day off so we decided to check out Phillip's Park. We heard so many great things about it. It was worth our time! Lots of cool animals, places to walk around, and the best part... it's free!!! We're planning on coming back, and would recommend it to others.
Only con I would have is the zoo isn't as big or have as many animals as say, Lincoln Park zoo in Chicago. However, there isn't as much traffic either. Also, not only is there a zoo, but playgrounds, a running track, a golf course and more. Again, worth checking out!

We stopped in on the way to Chicago. It's a nice sized zoo, which is free!! We saw wolves, alligators, reptiles, eagles, an otter, and elk. We took the tram ride, which is so nice to see the beautiful park!! The sunken gardens are amazing to walk through. They have a nice waterfall too! They also have mastodon fossils!! Our five year old loved it!

Maybe we went at the wrong time, but at the majority of the exhibits we could not see any animals. We saw no gray wolves, no river otters, no mountain lion, no opossum, and no pygmy goat. Next time we will do more research and viewing the animals. We had a good time anyways

There are a few birds to look at. Bigger animals are behind chain linked fence and you rarely see them. The park itself is fine if no one is there. However, some parents are not watching kids well. Two kids covered in pee running around. Some kids pushing and yelling at little kids. No parental interaction. Not a good place for family
