Owner description: After the bustle of the souks the best way to enjoy the place and a time of rest and relaxation is to simply collapse on a poufs or bench covered with printed tarpaulin Spirit 70 designed by Hassan Hajjaj , enjoy drinking a pot of green tea with mint or a natural organic juice ahead, flipping one of the many books available to customers in the patio, the lounge or on the terrace.

Having lived in Marrakech for over ten years, there are not many things that I have left undiscovered or experienced. However, I recently came across one such place.

Riad Yima, owned by artist Hasan Hajjaj, is situated within the Medina, in the south of the souk. Off the beaten track, it is certainly worth searching out! This Riad is not only a boutique and tea room, it is an art gallery that inspires an eco lifestyle.

There is a boutique where you can purchase clothing & fashion items, as well as furniture and interior accessories made from recycled materials. A riot of colour with strong African as well as Moroccan influences, you cannot help but feel uplifted in this environment. What better way to raise your spirits than by wearing some African print babouches or a tote made from re-cycled flour bags?!

An artist in his own right, Hassan Hajjaj was accepted to exhibit at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this year. How fortunate are we to have him in Marrakech!

I suggest that you take tea whilst there, to give yourself time to mull over your purchases!

My friend and I are in the advertising industry / arts and this was a really cool little spot to hit up. It had a really contemporary collection of art / books / clothes and was really interesting to walk around.

We had some lovely mint tea whilst browsing the Hassan Hajjaj collection of art.

Cool little spot to chill out in and get a different take on the culture :)

It's not a regular riad but small pop-art gallery created by one of the most important Moroccan artists, Marrakech based - Hassan Hajjaj

The boutique courtyard is full of recycled items designed by Hajjaj. He is redifying pop symbols in the context of Moroccan urban culture. He is also using traditional daily necessities changing it in art works.

During my last stay in Marrakech I paid a visit to his home and showroom in medina of Marrakech. We were welcomed with delicious atay and chebakia. I also bought CousCous bag which is one of my favorites accessorize ever.

Worth to visit - if you are lucky :)

I had read reviews about this place and the photographer Hassan Hajjaj and wanted to stop by. It was well worth it. The gallery itself is small but packed full of may interesting things. I mentioned having read about Hajjaj, so someone took us to meet him. He was setting up a new boutique nearby. He was charming and explained the idea for his boutique. Both are worth checking out - very different from most things you'll see in the medina.

This place is a little out of the way and not the easiest to find but, worth the visit, especially if you are a lover of contemporary art.
