Visited the square twice, once during daylight hours and once in the evening, during the day the place was quiet with some of the stalls open and just an average square. BUT come the evening the place was a total bum fight every inch of space was taken up with various entertainers from snake charmers to people playing music people with monkeys chained up !!!!! the place was awash with people just after your money, i was asked to take a photo of a snake charmer as i was interested as we walked by i gave the guy 20 dirhama couple of quid the guy then demanded 200 dirham just for the photo and was very aggressive in his tone and was right in my face but we just kept walking then my wife who was wearing jeans and t shirt had her bottom felt up on more than one occassion while walking around, their really was some foul and disgusting peolple in the square and to top it off a young guy of about 18yo danced passed us in a tacky costume put his hat on my wifes head and demanded money for apparently dancing for us.. needless to say i told him politely on three occasion no thank you and kept walking but then he became aggressive and swore at us f--- you f--- your mother you get the gist , in the UK he would have been laid out with with loose teeth but my wife persuaded me to walk away !! i would say to anybody thinking of visiting dont bother or stay around the edges, the local tourist police really need to get the place cleaned up.

Great to have a flavor of Marrakech and enjoy authentic food and buy gifts or ride horses to roam the city. The food establishment are abundant and budget friendly. Taxes are near- by and can, and should, be negotiated. The cost to nearby places can be as cheap as $3.

This place is busy and full of shops, there is no shortage of vendors and people trying to sell you things. The sellers some especially the animal traders I met were rude and aggressive, they force people to pay if they take photographs and have no problem bullying tourists to do so. It is truly sad to see what tourism corruption could do to a place. Sadly this experiance has put me off visiting Marrakech again that being said Morroco has so much to offer, just take a car and drive through the country and you will have an authentic Moroccan experiance.

We walked through the plaza having fun interacting with the vendors. Because we didn't know which "number" stall would be best so we based our choice on the witty repartee with the guys out front. It's a chaotic place so just relax and have fun with it. Eat a little here and a little there and have fun with the folks working it.
