We hired Ahmed Echarkani our first day out - inexpensive, very friendly man and well worth it. A local secondary education professor when not taking people out on tours.

Not only taught us the history, but took us to some amazing places for pictures that were only a couple steps off the path, but you'd never know if you didn't ... know. He explained how to haggle, and more importantly, who to haggle with ... as well as the difference between real Moroccan products and ones from Thailand. And there was no pressure from him in any way - he only took us to a store if we asked him for a product, and since we were with him, nobody bothered us.

All the best and worst in one place! Lots of units selling everything you never knew or thought you wanted with vendors hawking their wares

In the main square there’s a dated range of animal spectacles that isn’t nice with chained monkeys, snake charming, tethered donkeys, baby tortoises and birds of prey. The only way to stop this cruelty is for tourists not to give them money

In the evening the area is used for food stalls where you can try specialty’s such as sheeps head!

we enjoyed the souk experience and found some good bargains. Most traders are good natured and you can barter and have a laugh. Unfortunately one of the stalls in the square selling fruit juices 'soured' the experience. His trick is to take a note for say 50 Dh and then move on to the next customer and 'forget' the change. Even when you get his attention his language skills are suddenly poor and he has a problem understanding that he should be finding change for a 4dh orange juice from a 50 note. Sad really because he was the only trader who applied this trick and gets the place a bad reputation. Im afraid I didn't record his stall number, but he is toward the far end of the square near the man with the stall selling teeth (ha yes really)
