Dusk. The poorly lit narrow streets overlooked by two storey buildings stimulate all the senses of a first time visitor to the Medina. The smell of meat cooked on charcoal grills. The sound of mopeds hurrying down, narrow cobbled streets. The lack of being able to escape the proactive charm of a shop keeper's attention all contribute to a deep psychological cleanse.

Many people suggest Peace and Solitude are the best ingedients for focusing the mind. My belief a trip around the Medina for four hours in search of a Campari will provide you with better preparation for the Peace and Solitude part of your psychological detox following the cold winter in Northern Europe. Not a place for people suffering from paranoia etc....

A place you just have to visit, despite its crazy pace and people coming at you from all angles its a must place to visit, prepare to say no when asked to buy things or have photos taken with snakes and monkeys, of which some were clearly distressed as being dragged around by chains which is off putting and you cant help but look at them and want to help them. Just act confident and enjoy the pace.

This is the part of Marrakech you go to see - the walled old town. You can spend days wandering round there and if you keep yuour eyes open you can eat very cheaply as well. Museums, street entertainment, crafts - somethinbg fascinating round every corner.

Be prepared to get lost each souk is different from the next beautiful lamps and clothes to spices to fake designer clothes always barter great seeing how others live I would defiantly visit again but as a single parent to a six year old I found it too overwhelming were comfy shoes the floor is Cobbled motorbikes bicycles and donkeys pulling carts in very narrow walkways wish I would have dared to see more.
