My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in May 2018. I arrived with a broken foot and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a knock-out view. The food buffets were very good and Angela (the egg chef) greeted us each morning with a big smile. The entire restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming. On our last night, they presented us with a beautifully decorated cake to bid us farewell. We were very touched by the gesture. We were self-driving, so we got a lot of useful information from Julius. He and Erik were patient, helpful and glad to help with all our questions. Ibrahim Ongori (Asst. Lodge Manager) was always interested in our day and made sure we were enjoying our stay. Esther in the gift shop answered many questions about local crafts and was fun to talk to. When we return, we will definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Serena Lodge for two nights. The property is lovely and the staff is great, however the rooms are in need of updating and the lodge reminded us more of a Western-style hotel with buffet meals (e.g., an all-inclusive Marriott or Sheraton). We were so thankful for the hot showers, kind staff, and beautiful views, but were disappointed with the condition of the rooms considering the price. If you are looking for a unique, luxury safari camp, this lodge is likely not for you.

Despite being in the middle of the Serengeti the hotel itself is a standard, albeit bland, Marriott-esque affair. Excellent service and sumptuous buffets will make you forget that you're in Tanzania - it's up to you if that's a good thing or not.

On the definitely-do-not-miss list: The dawn hot-air balloon ride offered by the slightly tourist beleaguered guide in the lobby area every evening. It's worth the additional large-ish expense. I was able to book it the evening before, but I'd recommend just going all in and booking it in advance if you're able.

we stayed here for 2 nights in june 2018. We were happy with the facilities. The rooms were clean, food was good. You need a securtity guard to escort you to your room at night due to the possiblity of wildlife being there !. The views from the pool area are spectacular. The shows in the evening are good. Staff was attentive. Only thing that can improve is the picnic lunch boxes.

This was the lodge I had selected as the “anchor point” for our safari because I was enamored of the photos of the cunning round huts in the slanting golden afternoon light on TripAdvisor. I urged our Roy Safaris guide Salvatory to get us there before sunset, so we could enjoy the spectacle from the viewing point at the infinity pool and take pictures. It was well worth it.

Upon arrival, the staff gave us a serious safety brief (a lion had killed a water buffalo on the grounds not long ago, and hippos are known to show up at the pool during the dry season). We were cautioned not to walk between the main lodge and our room between sunset and sunrise without an armed guard. I saw a couple of pairs of cute little dik-diks roaming the grounds, but nothing more formidable during our one-night stay.

Our “room” was the top floor of one of the round huts. Our nephew had half of the lower floor of the next hut. Lots of hot water in the evening, much less in the early morning, probably because the power is provided by generator. USB charging ports made it easy to top off cameras, cell phones, etc. There is a safe in the room. As with most lodges, the wi-fi was better suited for catching up on email and social media than uploading large JPEGs. Walk-in mosquito-nets surrounded the comfy king-sized bed. We thought the Africa-themed décor was charming, but it lacked the "wow factor" of some of the other lodges we stayed at during safari. It was cool enough in early June that we did not need the small fan. Our balcony offered a great view, but we arrived just before sunset and left at 06:00 for game-driving, so we did not have as much time to enjoy it as we would have liked. This is a large property, so I can understand the uneven reviews, but our stay was thoroughly pleasant in all regards.

I liked the layout of the main lodge complex, with its rambling design, cunning arches and walkways, water features (with bullfrogs), cozy bar, and indoor-outdoor dining areas. The best scenic feature was the infinity pool and surrounding patio with spectacular views of the Serengeti plains. In early June, it was too cool for more than a quick dip (which made me glad of the plush robes provided in the room).

When we arrived at the lodge for dinner, the staff initially took us to an outdoor dining area with a great view, but it was a tad chilly and windy for me, so they quickly relocated us to an indoor table. Our server took orders for drinks, soups, and main courses from a limited but adequate menu (everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered). Salads/appetizers and desserts were buffet-style. Our table had a good view of the lively African singing and dancing (we thought the warm-up show during happy hour was better than the after-dinner show). The breakfast and lunch boxes were adequate (cold chicken, rice for the gluten-free member of our party, sandwiches for the others, along with cheese portions, peanuts, juice boxes, and fruit), but I can’t say that they were particularly inspiring (compared with those provided by the African Tulip and the Retreat at Ngorongoro).

As at most lodges, the Serengeti Serena staff were happy to accept credit cards for the bar bill…but if you pay cash, you avoid the 4% service charge. We donated to the tip box, as recommended by Roy Safaris, but also gave modest cash tips to a couple of staff members who gave particularly good personal service, which was clearly appreciated. Asante!
