The perfect setting for an anniversary dinner: pleasant ambiance, super staff with loads of appropriate attention. Not too little: not too much. Menu offered a good choice including options for vegetarian. Having stayed in the Hotel and the fact that the restaurant is in the Kampala Serena allows for that extra glass of wine!

We have visited The Pearl of Africa on many occasions and found it to be a VERY good restaurant. Actually the best in Kampala.

BUT tonight we left very disappointed.
We ordered the Todays Special which is a set menu at UGX 100.000
First course was a complementary course - a meatball (one) made from lamb - which was really not nice.
Second course was a chicken pate which was nicely arranged - but absolutely tasteles.
Third a broth of mushroom which nice and warm but very faint in taste
Fourth a Fillet Mignon which was NOT tender / I had the fish which was overcooked/dry and with some calamari which was real rubber!!!!
Fifth a very nice chocolate dessert (OK) and a creme brulee which hard like ?????
The coffee at the end of the dinner was really good.

We had complained to the waiter and head waiter, but apart from many excuses, the bill included all dishes we had ordered also the ones we had send out!

This is not what one should expect from the most expensive hotel in Kampala!
And I would definitely NOT recommend anyone to spend there money at The Pearl of Africa - before they have confirmed to have changed the chef!

The selection of cuisine is wide enough to please most tastes. i enjoyed the Ugandan staple of matoke (boiled bananas) and matumbo (cow offals) and the traditional chicken. Yummy!
