We visited Gaggan as part of getting a view on best Asian restaurant according to TOP 50 list. We've visited over 10 restaurants on the list and some of them famous for 3 stars like El Bulli, Vendome, El Celler de Can Roca, Osteria Franciscan, Mirazur and others. I must honestly say that Gaggan belongs to that list for sure. Super service, phenomenal food, nice and cosy atmosphere even with reasonable prices, what more could you ask from a top restaurant. It is a pity for Bangkok that Gaggan will move to Japan. If you visit Bangkok before it closes go there, it is a must place!

I'm not an expert in gastronomy, so I cannot talk about textures, techniques, contemporary or classic dishes. But I look for the experience, and that's what Gaggan is all about: from the beginning to the end, we felt like special guests and received a very attentive treatment by the maître - very polite, careful with the details. As we arrived, the sommelier presented us with many options, and his suggestion, a Spanish Pesquera, created a smooth transition in between the dishes. Food itself tasted greatly pleasant with a bunch of unexpected surprises: even though we had gone through their tasting ménu on the Web a few days earlier to the reservation, we could never guess how those attractive creations would taste like. Highest parts: the yogurt explosion, the mango wasabi and the apple snow; lowest point: the crab curry, for it was too spicy for our Western paladar. The maître observed our reaction and promptly asked us if we wanted them to cook another one, less spicy. No, we didn't. We wanted to taste everything as the chefs have designed and planned to be - and we enjoyed this, too. During the service, a young chef comes to your table to prepare a delicious soup ( the "matcha" ), explaining its story and flavors - so nice! The price is expensive compared to Thailand's standards, but still very fair for the progressive atmosphere they involve you in. Reservations are absolutey required, and if you're in Bangkok, don't miss it at all.

In November I visited Gaggan with a larger group and we were lucky enough to be seated upstairs at the 'students/observers' bar surrounding the work/serving area. This turned out to be the best seat in the house as Gaggan himself was serving us and had a very entertaining story with every course. The man is a showmaster and a master story teller, his presence for most of the courses made our night an awesome experience. The food is excellent with a large variety throughout the 20+ courses, great wines on offer as well. Would absolutely recommend and try to get a seat upstairs around the work area!

I didn't find the flavors to be remarkable which meant I was less forgiving of the over the top combination of ingredients. All of the 'surprises' were not palatable to me as they were organs. I love trying the signature restaurants of any city. Unfortunately this was not an enjoyable experience. FYI the restaurant is on the right side of the road highlighted by a spa sign in case your driver has a difficult time finding the place. The reason I gave it more than one star is the service was very thoughtful. Thank you to the staff for calling us a taxi.
