“This hotel is a joke in the hotel industry”
Reviewed 1 April 2012

This hotel is a bit of a mess. The location is OK and the hotel itself where it has been renovated is fine.
The club floor rooms are pleasant with their brown and green decor but they are small and the air conditioning isn't that good. They will be missing things as well, such as tea cups or spoons or even pillows.

The club lounge is pleasant but there are only 2 computers available so you can wait for hours for one to become available.

The buffet dining room is a total disaster by 7 at night the food is cold and the buffet looks like a bomb site. In fact I am not sure how safe it would be to eat the food off the buffet as half the candles that are meant to heat the food are burnt out. In the morning at breakfast it is even worse as it is like a snatch and grab sale. Who ever is the toughest wins.

If you need anything do not ask a staff member best to contact the general manager or department head as it is about the only way to get a response. The culture of the staff is that they do not want to deal with the guests. I heard a duty manager say that the guests were pigs and that sort of sums up the attitude of the hotel

I have given it two chances by staying there twice I wouldn't never stay there again. In fact this hotel is a joke among the industry

Room Tip: rooms at other hotels are better

The Holiday Inn Silom has rooms which far exceeded my expectations - they are spacious and well furnished, with comfortable beds, large bathrooms and fast broadband, as well as tasteful decor and flatscreen tvs. For the price, I was very impressed. We had two separate stays in March 2012 - the first on the club floor, and the second not with club perks, but on both occasions the staff were great. Check in was fast. The rooms were the same in quality on both stays, with two bottles of free drinking water and complimentary priority club chocolates. The 23rd floor club lounge offered very generous happy hour service from 6pm to 8pm with freeflow wine and beer and a wide selection of snacks. The lounge has wifi and is open until 11pm. We had connecting rooms for the family which worked very well.

Internet usage is 300 baht for 24 hours. There is a tennis court and a swimming pool on 6th floor and a reasonable gym with two treadmills and various free weights and machines. There is a diamond store in the lobby and we were able to get taxis when we needed them. It took just over an hour to get from the airport in the weekday rush hour period and cost Baht 400.

The Tandoor restaurant on 6th floor is famed for its excellent Indian food, which is true, but the service was very slow and the musci was far too loud. The curries were tasty though. The wine list was basic but good value, I felt (Baht 1300 for a new world red). Downstairs, the Brasserie was fully booked on the Saturday night we stayed. Breakfast in the club was more than ample and room service was prompt and efficient. All in all, a most satisfactory stay and I would return here and recommend it to others.

I was in Thailand for business and this was the second time I chose Holiday Inn Silom as my hotel due to the good experience I had the last time. The hotel is nicely located in the center of everything you need. Shopping, food, temples, fruit vendors (you cant miss eating the mangos) and a whole bunch of stuff to do. However, nearly after a year, the hotels service level (check in, house keeping and room service) is not the same as it was last time. We waited nearly 2 hours before we could check into the room because it "wasnt ready when it was supposed to be". The staff is polite as always but its really hard to communicate with them due to the language barrier. I wish some efforts were made to have a small number of english speaking staff in all departments. There is an ice bar in the Irish pub outside the hotel and it was fantastic experience and a good way to beat the heat this summer. Breakfast is awesome. I loved the breakfast experience here. There is a live eggs to order counter and its fabulous. Just try the Cheese and Chilly omelet and make sure your eloquent when you say it otherwise the chef wont understand you and you wont get what you asked for.

Overall it was a good place to stay and they made efforts to make our stay comfortable.

Room Tip: Chose a room on the higher floor. Use your priority club membership to get upgraded to a higher clas...

We stayed here one night in March 2012 and were very impressed. The check-in (and out) were efficient and the staff were all helpful. The lobby area was very impressive. The room itself was comfortable and clean. There was a 'pillow menu' and and other little touches which made it more luxurious than the price we paid suggested we might expect. The Irish bar attached and its sub-zero vodka bar were worth a quick visit. The area outside is vibrant. We enjoyed a very authentic meal nearby at what was little more than a street cafe. We sat in plastic chairs at basic tables set out in the street/alley alongside the Silk Suite hotel on Silom Road, opposite the State Tower. The food was excellent and great value - about £7 for a few dishes, including clams in chilli, and 2 large beers. A trip to the open-air Sky Bar on the 64th floor of the State Tower was also well worthwhile, although 2 cocktails cost about 6 times the price of our earlier meal!
