Was here for a short trip and decided to try a hotel in the Huai Khwang area instead of the usual Sukhumvit stretch.
Location wise, it's located along the stretch of Ratchadaphisek Road, a short stroll to the Huai Khwang MRT station, go getting around to the rest of BKK by train is convenient. Lining both sides of the hotels are the large entertainment complexes/massage parlours - if you're so inclined.
Checking in was reasonably fast, the hotel lobby was large but as with everything else, looked a little dated. The room was reasonably large, with a double bed, 2 lounge chairs and a desk. Bedroom slippers and in-room safe was provided, as was a mini-bar and the ubiquitous hot water kettle for coffee/tea.
Bathroom was also a good size with a tub as well as a glass-walled shower cubicle (which I must say was also quite large).
However, there were evident signs that the place needs better maintenance - the metal frames of the shower cubicles were rusted, the rubber gasket for the shower door was broken at the bottom, causing water to leak out of the cubicle when you were showering. On Day 2 of my stay the airconditioning started leaking, which prompted an ad hoc maintenance call to clear the choked pipe (lack of regular maintenance?).
The rooms also did not have sufficient power points, especially at the bed-side tables.
Other than that, the rooms were spotlessly clean. Service staff were polite and service was prompt when needed (i.e. my early morning aircond problem). The airconditioning was also too cold, even when the set point was at 24.5 Celcius, likely a thermostat issue so I had to turn it up (from 22 - 25C) and sometimes to have it off for short periods even.
Buffet breakfast was pretty good, with a nice selection and tasty as well. Especially liked the porridge which was very tasty!
Fitness centre was also pretty good, with separate areas for cardio equipment (treadmills) and free weights, so a nice plus point there.
Overall, I would give this place 3.5/5 stars. You get more than what you pay for and if you can overlook the small niggling issues then it should be a pretty good value-for-money stay in Bangkok.
