Arrived at night for 1 night . First impression as you arrive isn't great as its under a large underpass

Don't let this fool you , once inside it's very quiet and actually quite nice

Check in was professional

Room was small but modern , clean and well equippped

Breakfast was tea and toast and set in a quiet courtyard ( perfect for an Englishman )

Five minute walk to Samsen soi 2 are ( nice collection on quiet bars and restaurants )

Overall a very good choice for couple of nights in Bangkok within walking distance to everything but a peaceful and secure nights sleep

Room Tip: We had smallest and cheapest room for 2 and this was fine

Swana is a little further from Khao San Road, but it's an easy walk past fantastic and cheap food vendors. The room is quite lovely and good value for money. The free cookies in reception was a nice touch. The staff tried to be helpful, but we found exploring on our own to be more helpful as the staff simply recommended for us to go eat somewhere on Khao San Road. The bed was a little hard. Overall, it was a good experience and would consider staying here again.

Stayed here 3 times and would stay here again

Pros:
- Room is well appointed and clean
- We've really come to appreciate the area, 15 minutes walking from Khao San road
- They have free coffee, tea and biscuits and toast
- Nice security guard and bell boy

Cons:
- The WIFI works and is fast, but requires AN ANNOYING login every time, with random characters!!!! It would be nice to change it
- The RECEPTION staff is unprofessional, unfriendly and surprisingly inconsiderate for Thais. We booked via phone the previous day and had asked to be checked in at 8AM, to which the receptionist agreed. Understandably so, the hotel was full and when we arrived at 6:30 AM, we were happy to wait for the first guests to check out. The first guests checked out at 7:30 and we waited till 8AM to ask what was happening after having traveled all night. The receptionist, a young gentleman then told us that we had to wait for the house keeper to clean other rooms first and that we had to pay 300 baht if we wanted the room cleaned right away. In the end, we got the room around 8:45 AM. However, the experience of trying to be charged money for something agreed upon goes against the basics of customer service and decency.

We booked two rooms for a stay over between two flights from Bangkok and chose it his hotel mainly for the price and the good reviews.
When we arrived, we were met in the reception by a very uninterested woman, who made us feel like we came and disturbed her in the middle of her favorite soap on TV, that was running in the background. Even though one of us I native Thai, and speaks the language, she managed to mess up our check-in and filled in several forms, taking copies, writing on the computer and fiddling with different papers for more than 20 minutes before we got the keys to our rooms.

The rooms were very dated and dirty, with mold in the shower, loose tiles, cracked sink and filthy dusty air conditioner. The linen in the bed had stains on them, and the bed it self was really hard and uncomfortable.
There is no elevator and the entrance to the rooms goes through a parking garage.
The hotel does not serve any breakfast and there are no restaurants close by that do either.

I guess that we got what we paid for, but let's just say we're not doing the mistake of booking this dump again.

Room Tip: Book another hotel...

We paid 4,500 for 5D/4N, so I can't really complain. There are several good points to the hotel, mainly with the amenities. Really strong wifi connection, hot shower, cold aircon unit, etc.

Rooms are a bit dated though with cracks on the wall and whatnot. Bathroom is also very small; can barely fit two people in it and the position of the door is akward. The cable tv had maybe 2 English channels and the rest were Thai. Computer use though is mindblowingly expensive at 60B/hour while we were able to go to Diamond Hotel and use theirs for only 30B/hour.

The location was great though. Just a 10-15 min. walk to Khaosan Road if you know the shortcuts through the alleys behind the hotel. We had a really good night's rest and the view of the temple outside our window in the morning was perfection. There are also two 7-Elevens close by.

Another downside though is that we had no free bottled water in our room and they had no toothpaste and toothbrushes as well. No breakfast but they have toast and biscuits in the lobby.

Overall it was a decent and pretty enjoyable stay nonetheless. I would recommend it, but there are also nicer choices nearby.

Stayed: January 2015, travelled with friends
