“Good Price, Good Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 December 2011

The hotel is a good value & is very comfortable. I stayed there a whole week & the service was always perfect. The hotel is large, but is tucked away from the main road, so it is very quiet. The room is large. When you need a taxi have the guys at the desk help you, they will call a cab & make sure the driver knows where you are going, and there is no extra charge for this. The hotel is across the freeway from Central Bangna Mall. This mall is wonderful & probably has anything you might need while you are in Bangkok. I took a cab to get there & it took about 40 minutes because of traffic! Next time I walked & it was a pleasant 15 minutes! To walk to the mall, walk down to the service road in front of the hotel, then turn left walking against the one way traffic. You will come to a walking bridge that takes you over the freeway, walk over & there you are. There is a nice modern grocery store next to the mall. To get back to the hotel, walk back across the bridge, then have the policeman there wave a taxi, or continue walking. When you tell the driver where you are going, accent the last syllable AvanA or they will probably not understand you.

Room Tip: I had the basic room, it is big and OK, but a bit on the old side. I believe they have newer nicer...

A modern very big hotel, that was great for a one night stop over. Rooms were spacious, modern and clean. Staff were friendly and efficient and restaurant food was surprisingly good for hotel food. However, the hotel was big and had little character, so find for a short stay, but not a long stay place in my opinion.

The hotel was like 2 hours away from the downtown centre, however it is what we need. We find it very convenient for us to go to BITEC to attend our 3 days convention, within walking distance (about 15 mins walk). The stay was acceptable, the room we had came with a small kitchenette too ^^ The front counter doesn't speak English, I happened to help them handling two Chinese Customers (I think their are from China), and the front desk lady then gave me an hour free access to internet as a token of appreciation :)

The Avana Hotel had cheap rooms, certainly value for the money if you consider that it includes breakfast. Service was excellent as they even brought down a pair of pants we left at the room during check-out.

They have a taxi service you could use to either book tours or schedule an airport pick-up or drop-off. The airport service price was reasonable at 600 baht per way for a car and 800 baht per way for a van. They are also very accomodating as we repeatedly changed our minds whether to avail of the car or the van due to the change in the number of passengers.

The public areas were reasonable. Air conditioning was on/off in the lobby though there is no air conditioning at all in the hallways. There was some construction going on at the breakfast area when we stayed though not much of a bother as there don't seem to be rooms used on the same floor.

The rooms themselves were standard and clean with the beds rather hard. Some rooms are equipped with a full-sized fridge. There is a free bottle of water per person in the fridge as well as some chips and biscuits for no extra charge. The bathroom was clean.

Breakfast consisted mostly of thai dishes with few western additions such as french fries (which seem to disappear the quickest) and cereal. Food included delicious soup, vegetarian dishes, rice, some desserts, cheeses, salads and others staples.

Some complaints would include the temperature in the room. It does not stay constant, which may be due to the occasional blackouts or possibly the air conditioning dying after leaving it on for long periods of time. This may be quite the issue as it does get rather hot in Bangkok. There was also a dirty sock left in a lockable drawer which they provide in place of the safe (which does not seem to be working.)

Location-wise, it's not close to the center for sure. You can't really catch the sky train from here. On the plus side, taxis are cheap and plentiul and the staff would gladly arrange one for you if necessary. There is a free tuk-tuk service which we never used.

If you're looking for a cheap but reasonable place to stay, this is it for sure.
