It's the sort that you have to tick off your list when visiting Chiang Mai.

I get to hear foreign tourists complain why they need to pay 20 THB to enter. People need to realise that locals pay to preserve their culture through TAXES which we do not pay while enjoying their city. Please be considerate and not annoy staff, locals, and better minded tourists about these misinformed complaints.

If you happen to be here during a buddhist holiday (there are usually at least one big one per month, around the full moon), this is the place to go at night! Thousands of Thais will make pilgrimage to this temple for various buddhist activities and ceremonies. On other days, it is a large and impressive temple, and worth exploring!

Wat Phra Singh is a beautiful Way with multiple beautiful temples. We went on a Sunday when doing a Segway tour. Beautiful golden temple, and interesting things to look at inside each. There was also a nice little set of market stalls on the grounds. It was really busy but enjoyable to see the grounds. Lovely place to visit!

We stumbled upon this temple after Sunday night market around 11 pm and it was gorgeous. I highly recommend to visit it at night not only to avoid the heat and sun, but also because it looks spectacular. The lighting makes it look even more magnificent. Fascinating.

An almost overwhelming temple in the western end of the walled centre of Chiang Mai, Wat Phra Singh is a site of worship, contemplation and pilgrimage - as well as a beautiful place to visit for those of a different (or no) faith.
Please however do show respect. Ladies (and gentlemen) please cover your knees and shoulders and remove your shoes in the requested areas - lots of people were ignoring this on our visit, *please* remember this is a revered site.
A lot of gold leaf seemed to have been laid recently, and I do mean "a lot", however, the statues, buildings and topiary in the garden are also worthy sights.
The motto we used to view this was: "Treat it as a cathedral with an ongoing service, that you are privileged to be allowed to see."
