Lived here for 3 years, this was my lunch pho place. That was 20 years ago. Been coming back here every 1-2 years or so since then. Exactly the same. No doubt in my mind this is one of the best pho shops in Hanoi (i.e. the world) and I've probably eaten pho in c. 50 places. The noodles are fresh, the broth is excellent, the chicken always good white meat, not stringy or skin/bone. And they nearly always have fresh bread sticks (pronounced "qway").

And the seats work for people with bad knees like me. Not "normal" chairs but not the time seats either - in between.

And it costs a ridiculously cheap 40,000 dong currently (i.e. pretty n normal pricing despite being one of the best in Hanoi)

If you don't want MSG just point at the big bowl of white powder next to the serving lady by the big pot and say something that sounds like "Khong mingchin"...

What a little gem! Tucked away in a business district is the old school Pho restaurant. The food is cooked over coals out the front of the building, supervised by mama who has been here for 45 years as I understand. This place specialises in Chicken Pho which is vibrant, fresh and excellent value for money.

So "pho" is ussually made of broth from cow. But here the main material is chicken, which makes it so special. Recommended to eat at noon and with some "quẩy" to add more flavor to the disk.

I had a late arrival to hanoi and was looking for a good pho near hotel I stayed in Hanoi. A lady in a shop pulled up a menu, showed my something like pho noodle and pointed to the shop opposite. It was a simple local noodle shop which you would pass by without batting an eyelid. The ladies there didn't speak a word of English nor did they have a menu. They just brought me a bowl of their pho with chicken shreds.

The noodle was smooth and soup delicious. The best was the chilly sauce that goes with it. Lovely and nothing you would not expect from a local cuisine. Truly authentic Pho noodle.

it was tucked in an alley behind the hotel we were staying in, and we saw lots of locals eating there so it was apparent of its quality. we visited a bunch of other recommended restaurants and this one, though lacking in appearance, had similar signs of greatness (tons of locals, grumpy boss lady sitting in front, don't seem to care too much for your business)

the chicken pho was excellent, namely the broth was very clear but incredibly flavourful. chicken was tender and the noodles were pretty good. 35,000 for a bowl and i'd say its money well spent. if the restaurant is packed, you can also choose to sit in one of the cafes on the opposite and you can order the chicken pho as long as you order from the cafe. imo you get a much nicer seating area and the option of different drinks so it's a good deal.

we travelled as a group and unanimously liked it so much we decided to eat there again the next day.
