Stepping into LA VILLA French Restaurant in Thao Dien is like entering a fashionable French mansion in a beautiful city in France except that it is surrounded by a lovely tropical garden with a swimming pool. The dining room is large and attractively furnished in a European style, with a winding staircase in the corner, plenty of space between the tables for privacy, the dark wood furniture, white tablecloths, and quality tableware all add to the elegance of the room. The resonant cuckoo clock is also a distinctive feature.
The restaurant is the brainchild of chef/owner Thierry Mounon and his wife and partner, Tina.
The food showcases the best of classic and innovative French food cooked by Thierry. Our duck was tender and cooked medium rare as requested and the souffle with Grand Marnier for dessert was creamy and light as it should be but with the liqueur it was certainly special.
Fine dining at its best and a real treat in HCMC.

Thao Dien in HCMC is blessed with two superb French restaurants. If you are really hungry then Trois Gourmands offers better value for the multiple courses, but La Villa is better if you just want a main dish (although as with 3G there are several bonus items to make the dining experience even finer). The surroundings are comfortable and the staff are attentive. The food is done flawlessly.Make sure you reserve a table in advance as the place is full even during quiet weekdays.

Well the food was good! Dessert was heaven! But better plan to stay a while because it takes time! I had the gourmet menue.. small portions. It is an experience to eat there but if you feel just like a good dish, better go to Scott! I guess back home I could not effort this kind of dinning. Check it out if you feel like tatii tataa.. very fancy..

The last night of our 21 day trip through Cambodia and Vietnam, my 3 traveling companions and I enjoyed a marvelous farewell dinner at La Villa recommended by our tour guide. It is about a 10 minute taxi ride from the Sheraton Hotel ($5). This beautiful restaurant in located in a gorgeous French villa with tropical gardens for a lovely outdoor eating experience. The main dining room was also well appointed. We opted for the outdoors enjoying a wonderful breeze. The service was beyond impeccable...and the food fabulous. Great dishes included the beef tenderloin with Fras Grois, the spiney lobster, and the specialty - Chicken La Villa. Also enjoyable was the crab ravioli (melted in your mouth), the onion soup with beer, and the beautifully constructed tomato, mozzarella and eggplant salad. As a surprise the restaurant started us off with tomato lollipops (cherry tomatoes in a hard candy coating-- real taste sensation). The chef and owner is French and his lovely wife,Vietnamese. The staff could not have been more accommodating. Great value for the price....do go!

The service at this restaurant was the thing you walked away talking and thinking about. Which is a shame considering how delicious the food was. French Onion soup cooked in beer, I've once had this before in a Moroccan restaurant in Paris, both were fantastic and filling, but I could of eaten it all over again and cancelled my main. Which would of been a shame as it was also delicious, stuffed with pâté it was rich and perfectly seasoned.
When does service become over friendly? Is it the shaking of everyone's hand when you arrive or the going over everyone's orders and trying to get them to change them to something lighter? Or is it the chef coming out while your eating to shake your hand as you try to chew quickly or been asked to wait as you are leaving with literally one foot in the taxi so the chef can shake your hand again. Over friendly service is when you can't have a conversation with the people you came with because you are been circled all night. Shame as the food is sensational.

Dear Marietta A,

Thank you very much for visiting us, we are glad that you thought that our food was sensational. Sorry for having been "over friendly", we just wanted to make sure you had a good time. I always say that i prefer too much service than not enough ;), sorry to keep you waiting at the gate to shake your hands as you were leaving, i liked to thank you personally our guests upon departure and as i am in the kitchen most of the time i have to run to meet them on time before they leave. I didn't want to bother you... Anyway we do hope to welcome you back soon at La Villa!
Happy Lunar New Year!
"Carpe Diem!"
Best regards, Thierry
