Description: La Cave Des Chateaux Restaurant is a French fusion restaurant, located in the center of the flourishing Vientiane Capital. First opened in 1998, we are proud to be one of the first restaurants to have ever opened in the beautiful Lao Oasis. We welcome you to indulge yourself with our Lao- French fusion cuisine, balancing perfectly the East and the West into a "lamvong" of fresh local ingredients paired with genuine French wines. Enjoy our comfortable and intimate Colonial Bistro setting, accompanied by seductive smooth jazz and romantic views over Vientiane's historical Namphou Square.

We ate outside and the ambiance of the fountain makes for a lovely evening no matter what. So there is that.

The food was good but steaks a little tough. Tartine was delicious.

But the star of this place is the chef/owner. He delighted in describing the specials and had all the flair one expects from a French chef. He enticed us to try an apple and pastry dessert which turned out to be as big as an apple pie! (But still only $5us!) it was delicious but so large we ended up sharing it with the people at the next table.

Made for a lovely evening. Accept that it’s a bit dear by Laos price standards and enjoy a great evening!

Had a lovely christmas evening meal here, one of us having the inventive set menu ($36) and the other eating a la carte. Excellent quality of food (mostly french based combined with Laos spices) and very good service, timed so that we could enjoy a leisurely meal. The service made us feel that we were amongst new friends and the restaurant was highly recommended by a local resident. Good location and we weren't troubled by the mosquitoes that others have mentioned. Bill was about 600,000 kip plus tip but we were having exactly what we wanted - it was christmas after all. Good reasonably priced wines.

Ate at this authentic restaurant for the second time and food was again- fantastic.
Having eaten at other french restaurants in Vientiane, I believe this is the best value french restaurant.
The house wine is surprisingly good too, perhaps try before ordering an alternative expensive bottle.
Would recommend to eat inside as little breeze in the outside seating area.

There were only 2 people in the place when we got there & they left by the time we ordered. First the good points, the set menu is cheap at £8 for two of the options & £10 -&12 for the other two options. One is steak & squid for £8, prawns & ribs for the rest. They do wine by the carafe which was only £9 for half a litre, the white was really nice & chilled. We both ordered soup, it's was an Asia fusion onion & tasted very nice, came with warm bread & butter & an amuse bouche of purée avocado which was lovely. Unfortunately that's where it ended, the steak was inedible, we were unable to cut it, my partner had to leave virtually all of it, when the waitress asked why, and we stated it was rubbery nothing was done or said about it. To be honest the waitress was lovely but spoke little English, but was attentive & kept our glasses filled. There was also a western French lady behind the till, I'm assuming the owner as this is a French restaurant, she never acknowledged that we were even alive & certainly never asked about the uneaten steak. I ordered the squid which was fine but certainly not melt in the mouth. The fries were good & we ordered more bread which was nice. Desert was fruit & ice cream, the ice cream was dry meaning it had "freezer burn" and it tasted of nothing. I know the price was cheap but I have eaten set menus in Paris for the same price where the rent is extortion & the food has been better, also the day before we ate at Le Signature their set menu was on £14 but Mitchelin quality. If it's hard to get good steak for that price, put the price up or do it in a different style, the French are known for their steak and this was definitely below par. There's much better French options in Vientiane. We only left a £2 tip which having been a waitress is hard for me to do, but the food wasn't worth tipping only the smiley waitress.
