My mother was visiting me in Laos for the first time so I wanted to take her to see some traditional Lao dancing. I'd been to the show at Lane Xang before and wasn't overly impressed so I decided to look for something else. I found this place on the internet and was so glad that I did.
This dinner theater takes place inside the Seng Lao Hotel. The restaurant is decorated in traditional Lao style and has a variety of seating options on both the main floor in front of the stage, and on a balcony above.
Before the show you get dinner which consists of a set menu. You get soup to start, followed by a tray of six or seven main dishes, and fruit for dessert. The best thing about the set menu is that it contained several spicy dishes, but the others weren't spicy. This worked well for us because although I like spicy food, my mother needed something a bit easier on her stomach. It's all you can eat and the waiters are very attentive so speak up if you want more of something! As you eat musicians play traditional music and it's very enjoyable.
The show began as we finished dinner. Along with the usual Lao dancing, this show included hill tribe dances and a basi so the performances were quite varied. The dancers were very professional and seemed to enjoy what they were doing.
Mom and I both really enjoyed this evening out. If you like this sort of thing, I highly recommend this show. The cost is $15 for dinner and the show. Drinks are extra. Call to make reservations in advance so that they know how much food to prepare.
