ran into this restaurant unintentionally after quite some time struggling with asking local people who barely speak English for a place to enjoy Laos traditional dishes. and it surprised me!. at first i was wondering why there are many guests in the restaurants but then i knew why, it's because the dishes are delicious!. i tried Khau neo and also Tam Mak Hung along with a bottle of beer Laos. although it was a little bit too much for an 1-man-meal but i could all enjoy it very much. the girls are nice also with a smile on their face for almost all the time, but it'd be great if they can speak English better.

Souliphone Sainumngum on Naxay Road, near the Japanese Embassy, is a bit off the tourist track but it is well worth taking the trouble to go there for some excellent food.

It has a large menu and they specialize in fish dishes.

Eating at Souliphone Sainumngum isn’t cheap but it’s worth every kip, or baht, or dollar. For the budget diner, there’s the phở (pronounced ‘fer’). It’s absolutely delicious.

One can’t help getting the feeling that the food here is really wholesome.

The restaurant is usually full at lunch time and from the number plates one can see outside the place at this time, it’s obvious that it is very popular with government functionaries. These people always know where the best food is available.
