Description: A TASTE OF HISTORY Contemporary guidebooks described dinner at “1924istanbul” as much a part of experiencing Istanbul as a visit to the bazaar or Blue Mosque. No visitor to Istanbul be it Mata Hari or Greta Garbo, Agatha Christie or the King of Spain would leave the city without paying a call. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish president was a loyal client. Emigrés and civil servants, bohemians and politicians all rubbed shoulders in its wood-paneled dining-room. The common denominator was a sophisticated ambiance, Central & Eastern European delicacies and lashings of ice-cold lemon vodka and some spectacular cocktails. This Istanbul institution with its 80 years tradition is in every detail a legend of a restaurant and bar in istanbul.

Sashah Khan has done a wonderful job restoring this tucked away gastronomic delight. Although we had to call three times to reach someone for a reservation, once we arrived, we were treated to a visual delight, placing us back in the 1920s with carefully crafted accoutrements to enhance the experience. What the wait staff lacked in experience--many were young--they made up in attitude and effort. My borscht was one of the best I have tasted around the world--rich with chunks of beets and vegetables and served piping hot, unlike many restaurants these days. The beef stroganoff was tender and juice with enough spice to make it interesting but not over powered. My wife and I sampled different drinks that were selected from the period. In all, a wonderful dining experience that should not be missed.

1924 İstanbul is a restaurant situated in the heart of the iconic city, İstanbul. It used to be the favourite hangout place for remarkable people for 80 years. Throughout the history well known people from Royal’s to Emigres, actors to directors, writers to journalists, civil servants to spies, bohemians to politicians, doctors to lawyers, fashionistas to musicians dined in this restaurant. From these, the most important guest was M. Kemal Atatürk, whose table still stays "reserved forever."
Apart from its historic importance, the restaurant offers an impressive ambiance. Sitting in any table you can feel the warmth of the atmosphere with a Russian touch and the friendly staff.
The restaurant offers great variety of classic Russian dishes, from Russian meatballs to chicken kievsky. The vodka varieties are a must to try, which are handmade. From "yellow vodka" to salmon, the restaurant re-writes the vodka experience
We had a pleasant dining experience with food of the most exquisite flavors.
1924 is a special yet, friendly restaurant that I highly recommend not only to tourists but also to the Turkish food lovers as well.

This is an interesting place, quite different from the other restaurants of Istanbul. High ceilings, interior of early 20th century, very “atmospheric”.

The chef is Russian, so the signature dishes, like Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Kiev are really tasty and authentic.

Their famous “lemon vodka” is very good, though not as strong as classic Russian vodka. Still, it is tasty, soft and very drinkable even for the beginners.))

Service is efficient and attentive without being overbearing.

It is a very good place to taste Russian cuisine.

Yes, I can recommend this place to a friend.

We visited on a whim last week and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.

The service was attentive without being intrusive and the manager / owner could not have been more friendly or helpful.

The food was very good all round, but the fresh bread with salmon butter stood out as did the beef dumplings with caramelised onions. I would quite happily go back just to enjoy the dumplings.

We had a selection of their cocktails including the Negroni and Espresso Martini and they were all excellent. The vodka trolley was a particular highlight. The lemon vodka was very tasty whilst the salmon vodka was 'interesting'.

The building has been beautifully renovated and is really like taking a step back in history.

My only comment would be that the tables were a little close together & in a restaurant that was only half full, we were sat next to two other couples on either side. It felt a little claustrophobic and a little more space between the tables as well as better judging where to seat people would have made it a little more relaxing.

On one Thursday Mid October, after my wife trying several times to arrange booking a table for my birthday dinner at old Rejans ,we find out that the old name of restaurant is now converted to 1924 istanbul, at the same location ,as we make our way through with our old friends. we see and feel the place the old damp smell dark red colour carpets being replaced, with remarkable stone floor coverings and rest feels the same ,table set to the memorial of Mustafa Kemal ATATURK .interior captured us ,till we wake up with the gentle voice of the waiter asking us if we may wish to taste the yellow Vodka.,,there we started ,and end the night with high appreciation to the management.
Thank you for your care ,pls keep up the good work
