This hotel is old, in the worst meaning. At the arrival they couldn't find my reservation, the room was little with no view from window. Old consumed moquette and bed linen made the atmosphere very sad.
The hall is always dark and breakfast is has no sweet choice.
Position: 10 minutes walking from public transport.

Spent a very pleasant week here, beginning October, just out of the High Season. During the High Season things are bound to be different.
Located on a very quiet minor street in a quiet area. No traffic, few pedestrians. Large areas in Istanbul are closed off by movable bollards, keeping the traffic to the dual carriage ways, which are grid locked at peak times. Bollards are lowered during the quiet times. Would expect more pedestrians as half the buildings in the area are Hotels.
The two storey entrance is light and attractive, very much nicer than most in the area. Reception is friendly and helpful. Two small lifts adequate for a couple with luggage. But during the high season they will be overworked. Breakfast and Dining is on the mezzanine overlooking the entrance.
Bedrooms are on the next six floors. Room nos 1 to 4 at the back, overlooking, as you would expect, the back of other buildings, many with air conditioning units and other compressors and plant on flat rooves. Likely to be noisy at night, but that will apply to all Hotels in the area, have a look at Google Maps Satellite. Room no 1 looked much bigger than the others.
Rooms 5 and 6 are internal with a window onto a lightshaft, which is less than perfect.
Rooms 7 to 10 are at the front, very quiet street. Floors 5 and 6 have views over the buildings across the road of Sehzade Cami, or the Prince's Mosque, and distant Istanbul beyond. Our room was 6106, which is featured in the literature, and actually has that view. Rooms are not big, but generally adequate. Noisy neighbours can be a problem if the hotel is full. Shower rooms are tiny, but the water flows hot and strong.
Tilia is close to several bus routes, if you can figure out where they go. 10 minute walk down to the amazing tram, which will take you miles for a single standard fare of 1.3 or 2.3 lire, unhindered by grid lock in the adjacent roadway. Goes pretty well every minute, so there is never the trauma of just missing the tram. Fantastic system, but at peak hour can be so full that you will not be able to get on. Also a clever ticket system, see your travel guide.
Just around the corner from Tilia to the left is an ATM. But there are money changers everywhere offering very good rates, 3.3 to buy, 3.2 to sell. Even at the airport the rate was reasonable, unlike Britain, where the differential is 25%.
Turn right instead, left and right again, in the main road are 3 restaurants virtually next to each other, we found the third one best, decent First Floor dining room.
Taxi to and from the Airport is 50 to 60 Lire, probably only 30 on the meter, but they refuse to use the meter, even the one booked by the Hotel. Taxi drivers don't speak English, and won't know your hotel, Istanbul is huge, so print off a map, locate the hotel, together with address and telfone no, cabbie will ring for directions.Use Turkish names for Mosques, they won't know the English.
