We had originally booked with another hotel but due to a government audit on it, we were transferred to Efendi hotel and were we ever happy about it.

Location: As it was our first time to Istanbul, we had done a fair bit of research and put a lot of thought into where we wanted to stay. However, it wasn't until we arrived in the Old City that we realized how steep or hilly the area was. Despite being a couple of blocks away from each other, our hotel was actually at the bottom of the hill. Efendi, on the other hand, is situated at the top of the hill and a stone's throw from the amazing sites such as Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar. Better yet, despite being in the centre of it all, it is tucked away in a quiet street so noise was never an issue.

Service: Hands down, Efendi is the epitome of Turkish hospitality. The 2nd day after my partner and I arrived, jet-lagged we didn't make it down to reception until 1pm. Unbeknownst to us, the staff there noted that we were missing at breakfast and took it upon themselves to prepare us a delicious meal so that we would have enough energy to start our (late) day. Between the two of us, we have never experienced such care at any hotel.

Rooms: The size of the rooms are typical of Istanbul, on the smaller side. However, they are well appointed and beautifully furnished. I've always been quite particular about water pressure and was very pleased with the shower.

Efendi is true gem in the heart of one of most amazing places on Earth. We will be returning to Istanbul in the fall and will definitely stay there again.

Tip:
1) Avoid the airport taxis - a real rip off. Instead, when you exit the airport, walk across the street where there are literally hundreds of yellow cabs waiting. Average cost from Attaturk to Sultanahmet is 20 euro or $25usd or 40 turkish lira.
2) Exchange rates are best at the airport or Grand Bazaar
