I stayed for 3 nights at Riva Hotel for business and the stay was average. It is located at a place - Taksim - which offers many more hotel options to choose from. Since this was my first time to Istanbul, I just booked Riva as it was recommended by a colleague who had stayed there. It's a no-frill stay - location is amazing, metro station is close by and dinning options are in ample all around. A few negative points:

- Rooms are small sized and so are the bathrooms.
- Internet Speed is average, By my bed the internet wouldn't work as I had a corner room. Had to roam around the room to get access
- They did not provide for any complimentary water
- No coffee maker in the rooms (this is a big negative) - I even requested the hotel front desk for one and they said whenever you need coffee just call the cafe downstairs and they would send it to the room! I know that but I still want a coffee maker in my room...

The hotel overall is clean and as a solo business traveler is OK. But is it strictly not advisable if you traveling with family, especially children - they won't even fit into the rooms!

I spent my honeymoon in Riva Hotel.
I was there on May 2013.
I've spent there 10 days.
Everything about this hotel is simply amazing from food, cleanliness, to staff.
The hotel is in the center of Taksim.
I really miss being there so much...

Other than the location nothing special, just an average hotel.. Small room, its renovated not to bad.. Clean bathroom , all toiletries but very hard towels.. No fabric softener used at all.. Pillows are hell hard, my ear get pain when i wake up.. Staff is ok.. Internet is so slow and need to log in every single time.. Its pain.. Have to re-code room card every time when came from outside to hotel, because its not working... No tea, coffee making facility in the standard room.. But in Istanbul, this isn't a big problem.. Because especially that area ( taksim square, istiklal st) not sleeping 24/7.. Just the step away. You can always go out and find open cafe even 1 am in the morning.. Surprisingly very simple but very fresh and tasty breakfast.. Not much variety but all selected beautifully good, fresh and tasty food.. Love it.. Overall I think its ok for its price.. Nearby everything.. More suitable for short business stay i guess.. Or someone spend all their time to discover Istanbul.. not to stuck the hotel.. Because there is no space to spend time other than the room.. Like most of that size hotel around.. Some info for other travelers.. Big Bus, metro, city bus station is just meters away.. A minute walk.. All the famous tourist attraction is like dolmabahce palas only one station away or 10 lira with taksi less than $5. Public transport is pretty cheap..
