InterContinental David Tel Aviv
Ranked #51 of 102 Hotels in Tel Aviv
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 10 February 2010

The only great part was the breakfast. Rooms are old and tattered even though we stayed in the newly renovated rooms. Told in Winter that they switch off the air con so rooms where stuffy. Concierge where helpful. To compare to other Inter Continental hotels this is possibly the worst.

We stayed in InterContinental David in Tel Aviv for almost 10 days. The hotel is located across the street from the beach (Mediterranean Sea) and a walking distance from Jaffa. There are a lot of great restaurants and boutiques just behind the hotel - in Neveh Tzedek neighborhood. Overall, it is a nice and clean hotel with a massive and elegant lobby and high-end shopping arcade and an attentive service, but there were a few things that could be improved.
First, our bed was old and very uncomfortable. I guess there were some rooms, which had updated furniture, but not all of them.
Also, stuff at the restaurant wasn't very professional. When I approached the hostess desk I was informed in Russian language that the restaurant was closed. Why was she speaking Russian to me? Not sure, maybe because I was blond and there were a lot of Russians in this hotel. Still, very unprofessional! I'm not Russian and I don't speak Russian.
There are not too many high end hotels in Tel Aviv, so I guess InterContinental David is a pretty good choice.

We just returned from a wonderful 2 wk trip from Israel and had a great experience at the Inter C D TA. We have been to Israel many times but have never stayed at the ID. We had just spent the one week all over Israel with our family of grown sons and had not pre planned where or what we would do when we they went their way. We were not sure about the InterContinental (the reviews were not 100%, but I liked that the management responded) but it was a great location and we wanted comfort and class. We were put on the 24th Club floor and really liked it.The room was nice with a great view.We stayed 4 nights. We took a night trip North which Avi, the conceirge helped arrange and returned
for another 3 days. There was a mix up upon checking out, the first time we thought we were quoted a lower rate when we walked ( I think the rate is a little high but we did go on the Club floor. But we did come back. We stored our luggage and returned to an even nicer room. We really enjoyed seeing Avi at the desk (he was always friendly and helpful). At the 24 Club, Sivon was there always greeting us with a smile and always ready to help. She was great! The Club was stocked with the best snacks and foods and drinks and fancy coffees. (Not just cheese and crackers) Sometimes some of the other girls seemed to jump at us for our room number maybe it was just Israeli style.Maybe those did not speak English that well?) The people in the breakfast downstairs were all so pleasant, I did not want to leave. And the food was the best assortment that I've seen.(I cannot remember his name but he was a tall fellow originally from the Ukran -maybe the captain,he always checked to see how things were going on the buffet and checking on people being happy as well) I'm not kidding, this is the hotel where they care about guests have a good comfortable vacation. Its good also that most people there speak English. Also, the room we had on the 24th floor were very nice. The only thing that could be better is to have internet in the room included. Thanks for a relaxing end to each hectic day in Israel. Felix, Fresno CA

First off, don't expect great service in Israel. Although Israelis are decent hardworking people they have a reputation for being quite rude and aggressive (probably relating back to spending 2-3 years in the army). That being said, the service was good and I don't have many complaints about this hotel.

We were checked in quite quickly and efficiently and the staff were pleasantly helpful, although they seem to have some communication issues between departments which could be improved!. When they brought our luggage up from the car, they left one bag behind. We called down to have it delivered and they were nice & apologetic. However, 40 minutes later...still no bag. We called down again and it seemed like they were on it. After another 20 minutes we began to think that something was wrong. Finally after the 3rd call another 20 minutes later the bag was delivered shortly thereafter. It seems that the Bell Boy dept and the front desk don't quite communicate with each other! If we were in a hurry and really needed our bag I could see how this would be really frustrating, but we were on holidays and patient, so although it was annoying, it wasn't that big a deal.

This hotel is in a very good location, close to shopping, Jaffa and right on the boardwalk. It's a little far from the port where the bars and restaurants are, but overall a walk or short taxi ride to most things.

The breakfast was diverse and offered a wide range of choices. Everything that we had tasted good and the service in the dining room was excellent.

Our room was nothing special, but it had a very nice view of the sea and the city. We were on the Club Lounge floor, but we later found our that because we booked on points they put us in a room that had not been renovated. Hmm...a little bit of "Points Discrimination"! They also forgot our complimentary water and fruit, which we had to ask for!

One other thing worth mentioning is the H Stern store in the hotel. They have very nice things, but be warned they are VERY pushy! At first the saleslady Betty was extremely friendly and helpful...suggesting I try on various trinkets and offering to clean my jewelery. When we told her we would think about it and later said that we weren't going to buy the $8000 necklace she had me try on, she got VERY rude and aggressive. There are H Stern shops everywhere in Israel (all of the 5 star hotels have them, not to mention every mall and airport), so I suggest trying a different location where the staff don't transform from sweet to Satan.

Overall a pleasant stay in a nice hotel. We'd stay here again.

I have to admit that after reading the many reviews about the staff at the hotel, I was a little reluctant to stay. But, we needed to spend a night in Tel Aviv upon our arrival in Israel and our departure, so it seemed like the best bet given that it is directly across from the beach and of course, an Intercontinental. In short, we found the staff here from the front desk, to the lobby bar, to the restaurant and the Inca cigar bar to be very, very nice. We encountered no one with an "attitude" working for the hotel.

About the hotel itself: Its well located and about 30 minutes from the airport in mid-day. It is also directly across from the beach which is an excellent walking beach (goes on for miles). Be sure to ask for an ocean view room - they gladly upgraded us without additional charge. Yes, the street that you need to cross to get to the beach is busy but there are crossing lights and crossing is not a problem at all. There are also many bars and restaurants along the beach that are easy to walk to.

In addition, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk (down the beach) to Old Jaffa which is quite scenic and has a famous flea market (now I know where everything that I ever threw out went), many shops and galleries, and some decent places to eat. The hotel is well maintained and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. The beds and linens were also wonderful. We ate at both the lobby bar and the restaurant and the food is quite good, although primarily dairy. They also provide a small buffet of ethnic foods free of charge of Sabbath which was very good. Its worth booking a room with breakfast included as the buffet is expansive, varied and good.

A WORD OF WARNING - GET A NON-ADJOINING ROOM. The adjoining rooms can be very noisy and ours was when we stayed on our arrival in Tel Aviv. But, once we told the staff, they made sure that on our return, we had a much nicer room which was not adjoining. That's a staff with a good attitude!
