Nice area- easy to reach, nearly in the middle of the town. Near to Gemayze Street and to all of its bars, pubs and restaurants.
The rooftop bar and also the cafe/restaurant at the basement serve good food.
But the hotel/hostel was poor:
not very friendly staff
both rooms had large spots of mold on the ceiling and walls and
musty smell in the rooms as soon as the windows are closed.

The comment of the staff about my complaint: some construction works are ongoing - the mold seems to be older than one month and nothing was done against it.
Nevertheless they still have the room for rent.

Do not choose room number 21 in building 2

Room Tip: Do not choose room number 21 till construction works are finished and the mold is removed

What a brilliant night out. The food was good, but what made the evening were the live bands playing traditional Lebanese songs. The atmosphere was really good. I would book if I have the chance to go again. We sat inside by the window, but I would have loved to have been in the courtyard.

I loved this place for being an island in an adventurous place. I could walk to most spots in town. The Corniche is in about ten walking minutes distance. Most staff speaks English. Very helpful. I met travelers from all over the globe. Daily room service if you wanted. I have been there in December, so I chose not to have new bed sheets every day. Rooms are equipped with airco, that you can control yourself. In my case I had to heat the room from time to time. Very practical for my three weeks stay: a laundry room, allowed to be used by guests, equipped with both washing and dryer. Just perfect the combination having a café downstairs that offers breakfast, local snacks and frequent evening events, and a bar at the rooftop that has a nice overview to the sea and mountains once you enter its balcony. Saifi Urban Gardens is home of the Saifi Institute for Arabic language. So you can combine your stay perfectly with classes. Lets not forget the little garden directly in front of the main entrance: art and nature. I will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Both dorms and private rooms have a spacious shared sitting area and terrace with it.

The hostel is cheap and somewhat cheerful. Some staff nice and would do anything for you, others...well...it's probably best to say nothing. Same breakfast day after day after day...awful! The wifi is the worst I have ever experienced (one log-on only allowed so if you have 2 devices, you are screwed). It also logs out when device goes on sleep mode. Shower taps don't always work.

On the up side it is conveniently located and if you are 19-25 it is perfect. A beautiful, clean building also that is very well maintained. Maybe two weeks is far too long to stay there. I only stayed this long as I was doing an arabic course in their school. The course is very good but the teaching was not what I expected...:-(

Finally, do not book a taxi from the airport with them! It will not arrive and you will spend so much of your own money phoning them to re-arrange it!

I booked a taxi with them and confirmed it on 2 occasions. The taxi did not show at the airport so I was left waiting. I had to call them several times before the taxi arrived. Unfortunately cost me €25 in phone calls. No apology from them and no reimbursement! Real bad form.

Room Tip: They are all the same. Either it's a single room or group share. They all seem to be of an average standard. I had no complaints about that part of things. Wifi is terrible and logs out every time your phone sleeps. So get your own local phone with affordable internet. Get an upstairs room as downstairs rooms have no natural light and view of a wall of drinks crates.

It's not about luxury and fancy hotel lobbies. Neither about super modern shower rooms or hi-tech appliances. This hotel is a mini-compound of what it used to be a part of an old Lebanese neighborhood. It's basically a half block, Lebanese standards, turned into this motel with nice decorations and vintage cafeterias. You will get to experience living in a Middle-eastern setting from the 1st half of the 20th century, which will also reminds you of Mediterranean motels.

A significant aspect of this motel is the social aspect of it. Many tourists love to mingle over there and some westerners come specifically to participate in Arabic classes. Beirut, and the north eastern part of the Middle-east in general, is the best place to practice your Arabic at.
