My first time to dine at CuiScene was their Christmas dinner buffet. Given the high price and special occasion, we were expecting a memorable experience, which sadly was not the case.
The range of food was impressive with most items nicely presented. In terms of cold seafood, we were surprised that there were no oysters or lobster, as the advertisement on the hotel's website had promised "a vast array of fresh seafood". When we commented on this to one of the chefs, he did bring us 6 oysters each. The sushi was very good, as was the roast turkey.
Some hot dishes were not freshly cooked. The calarmari, in particular, was soggy and unpleasant. The cheese selection was OK, but by the time we reached it it looked untidy with some cheeses hacked to pieces by previous diners.
The greeting at the door was efficient and moderately friendly, however the hostess just left us at our table without explaining the packages or arranging for a waiter to take our drinks order. We sat for a few minutes and no waiter came. After unsuccessfully trying to get the attention of several wait staff, we managed to get the manager's attention and he arranged our first drinks.
Thereafter, it was difficult at several times to find a waiter to either refresh our drinks or clear plates. We certainly did not feel we had someone "looking after us" which is normal and expected at a good restaurant, even a buffet restaurant. The same poor service continued when we moved outside to sample something from the grill station. It was at this stage that the manager came over and I gave my feedback.
Service subsequently improved and the bill was handled efficiently, however I was a little surprised that no goodwill gesture such as a small discount had been offered.
