I spent 2 weeks at the Pegasus on business in early March this year. The hotel was comfortable enough though a bit rough around the edges. It's difficult to rate the hotel without seeing it in the context of Georgetown as a whole which is a total nightmare! The poolside restaurant serves decent meals when outside you would struggle to get anything other than chicken and chips or chinese. The pool is pleasant. Normally I would say this was faint praise, however the hotel still acts as an oasis of calm and provides good standards.
I've travelled fairly extensively in the region and find most places interesting, but found that Georgetown had no redeeming features - dirty, noisy, unsafe, largely unattractive - so if you have to go there, use the Pegasus! I couldn't see any other decent alternatives. Don't worry about asking for a sea view - the sea is brown and muddy from the Demerara river estuary - not exactly turquoise Caribbean seas! Don't bother bringing the snorkels!
There seemed to be some spectacular trips into the interior of the country available, but the hotel tourist office was never open so I could never check these out! One good service was the free internet access in the Presidents Suite - much better than using the expensive Business Centre, though sometimes busy as only one computer.
