My family and I (husband and 3 kids 11, 8 and 3) returned from our first visit to Vanuatu a few weeks ago. We spent 9 nights at the Cocomo Resort. The 2 bedroom townhouse style accommodation was perfect for us with full kitchen, as was the location, right next door to a supermarket and 15 minutes from town. We had some lovely days sight seeing and visiting different places and islands including the sister Island Erakor, Hideaway, Blue Lagoon, a cultural village, Marine Park and local school. Weather was mostly nice apart from the last few days. Overall we had a really lovely stay. Staff at the resort were all very nice and so friendly but you do have to get used to Vanuatu time and not get too fussed about slow service or sometimes no one at the resort able to answer tourist type questions. We did arrive at a very quiet time though and were a little disappointed that staff such as Patrick and Felix weren't around much to ask questions or entertain the kids on some of our quiet resort days. Husband and I didn't really get any break from the kids all holiday as a result. But that's okay I guess we would have stayed at a larger resort had we wanted full kids club facilities. We ate a few meals at the resort and the food was pretty good and cocktails were nice. The resort itself is very pretty, the kids enjoyed playing in the playground and by the lagoon and my husband and kids were also very happy they brought along a fishing rod as they caught plenty of fish early mornings and evenings. Taking the kayak up the lagoon was also very nice and seeing the villagers and local children living near the water. Just a few small issues we found were that our rooms didn't have proper curtains and blinds were missing many slats so 5am wake up's were the norm. Lucky I brought some pegs and fashioned a curtain with the bedspread for the kids room. And whist it was fantastic having a washing machine and tumble dryer, the washing machine in the bathroom prevented the door from closing which thankfully did not cause too many issues for our young family but a half open toilet door may pose a problem for other guests. The pool was also lots of fun and well maintained and thankfully we were there during the quiet season otherwise it would have been very small for many guests. The BBQ in the common area was also very dirty and not cleaned once during our stay otherwise we would have considered using it. Otherwise we had a lovely stay, thanks again Cocomo Resort.

Room Tip: Lagoon Views Rooms were lovely

First impressions mean a lot and unfortunately ours was not good. We arrived around 6:30pm local time to find reception closed. Our driver then spent 10 minutes running around trying to find someone to advise what room we had been allocated. When he finally located a staff member and we were presented with the keys, it was not the garden view, spa ensuite we had booked and had received written confirmation of, more like “omg where do we put them” accomodation.
We were then moved to our appropriate rooms the following day. Upon leaving 7 days later we had still not received an apology or even an explanation (despite asking) the reason for the mess up.
Many Other guests who arrived from different states in Australia over the following days to attend the same wedding as us also had unacceptable experiences checking in.
The menu is limited and expensive - that is if you are able to get what you ordered. Management certainly need to address this.

THE GOOD THINGS!!
The staff are very friendly! The pool is fantastic. There is an amazing /well kept playground for the children . The very large open undercover area contains pool table, ping pong and other games for young and old to enjoy.. the paddle boards and kayaks are free to use, not to mention the giant chess board . The supermarket next door was a huge bonus!

I must say we were a bit concerned being dropped off out the front of the Cocomo Resort. A bland road frontage hides a neat little resort behind the resorts office.
Some rooms have very peaceful & relaxing views of the Lagoon. Our room was nice without being special. Comfortable bed & nice shower - however the toilet facilities were a little odd with the toilet being open to the shower & rest of the bathroom.
The pool was pleasant & clean but small.
The biggest asset of Cocomo Resort was the friendly Staff & the Chef/Food. The food was top class and the best that we experienced in Vanuatu (we spent 15 nights on the island) Patrick the barman was a real character who always had a smile on his face & ready for a laugh.
The resort has a supermarket close by for the essentials (and a beer for the fridge) and is a 10min & 150v bus trip into Port Vila.
The resort is kid friendly with a sandy little beach (still need rock-shoes) with resort kayaks to keep them busy!

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the Lagoon - some of the rooms are a bit out of the way and a bit close to the road for my liking

This was a great place to stay. Our group was from 70 years to 18 mths & we all enjoyed it. The staff were great. So helpful. We had a lovely spa unit. Very enjoyable meals at restaurant. Also used room service at no extra cost. When one of the children in our party became sick staff were very kind.
