We were in Yangon for a few nights and unfortunately were not staying at the hotel as we knew it was undergoing major renovation....however we were delighted to discover that the hotel was opening on the last night that we were in Yangon, so we thought we would go and have a drink in the bar. What a surprise - old fashioned glamour, colonial, stylish, and the staff were superb. We were met by a very charming French man (Front of House - I think he was a Director) and he persuaded us to stay for dinner. Food was divine and we thoroughly enjoyed it - next time we are in Yangon, we will definitely stay there!

I really enjoyed our stay in The Strand after our river cruise (though not on their luxury ship). The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly and our welcome and daily attention from the Operations Manager, Mr Mark Murraybrown, was exceptional. It is just out of a major restoration and for the most part it looks wonderful.I think though that the interior decorator was allowed a bigger budget than the builders as our bathroom, for instance, showed evidence of damaged tiles and a silly central mirror between two washbasins. I gather that the damaged tiles were "original" or at least original to the previous renovation and the designer wanted to keep them. Even if that is the case chipped and cracked tiles look bad and can cut people.
The Sarkie's Bar serves good cocktails and beers, slowly, and of an evening seems to attract the diplomats form nearby embassies during Happy Hour after which it gets quieter in every sense.
We enjoyed our breakfasts and a dinner in the Strand Cafe for the quality of the food, especially the Myanmar breakfast dishes, and for the friendly, helpful staff.
And I slept well though some noise penetrated the secondary double glazing. Aircon could be noisy too.
Overall, I did enjoy my stay in this wonderfully historic hotel and if they could right a few irritants and get a pool (the space for it is at the back of the hotel which looks like a builders' dump at present and not pretty) it would get five stars from me.

The Strand is a lovely hotel with professional friendly staff, who strive to make your stay comfortable. With elegant decor throughout, the bedrooms are very spacious and butler service really takes the experience of being a guest to another level. From having clothes pressed, to serving a pot of tea, it was special to feel pampered.

This was my first visit to Yangon and I stayed for two nights prior to taking the fabulous Strand river cruise from Mandalay to Bagan. The new ship totally exceeded my expectations and was the highlight of my entire Myanmar holiday. If you're looking for an impressive and luxurious travel experience, booking the Strand hotel in conjunction with it's sister ship is a perfect combination and one I highly recommend.

This newly refurbished 5 star hotel has everything one wants of a high class hotel plus more. The décor is “British Colonial” in style and the furniture and fittings are excellent.
We had a suite which entailed a bedroom and lounge area with a separate study – again very well furnished and comfortable.
The hotel has a large bar area where one can enjoy snacks ranging from fish and chips to sandwiches. The café has a good menu offering Burmese, Asian and Italian food – great food at reasonable prices.
The restaurant rivals most top restaurants in the world – Michelin star quality food and presentation. We had a marvellous evening. Clara went out of her way to ensure that all our needs were attended to and it was great to see Clara’s husband, the Chef, come out and talk to the diners – great touch – many thanks you two.
The staff are eager to please and are a credit to management.
Finally to Mark, the operations manager, thank you for going out of your way to make our stay an enjoyable one.
