We stopped here for a drink at the warmest time of the day. If you want to spoil yourself in some colonial style luxury you should defenitly go here. It is a five start hotel which is considered to be the most expensive one in town so do not expect it to be cheap...

We stayed at the Strand Hotel post our Strand Cruise from Bagan to Mandalay and we enormously enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautifully decorated and our spacious suite was simply dreamy. Breakfast at the Strand Cafe was delicious and the afternoon high tea was wonderful. Can't say enough about this gem of a hotel, simply loved it!

Room Tip: Suite 210 was gorgeous

We were in Yangon for a few nights and unfortunately were not staying at the hotel as we knew it was undergoing major renovation....however we were delighted to discover that the hotel was opening on the last night that we were in Yangon, so we thought we would go and have a drink in the bar. What a surprise - old fashioned glamour, colonial, stylish, and the staff were superb. We were met by a very charming French man (Front of House - I think he was a Director) and he persuaded us to stay for dinner. Food was divine and we thoroughly enjoyed it - next time we are in Yangon, we will definitely stay there!

I really enjoyed our stay in The Strand after our river cruise (though not on their luxury ship). The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly and our welcome and daily attention from the Operations Manager, Mr Mark Murraybrown, was exceptional. It is just out of a major restoration and for the most part it looks wonderful.I think though that the interior decorator was allowed a bigger budget than the builders as our bathroom, for instance, showed evidence of damaged tiles and a silly central mirror between two washbasins. I gather that the damaged tiles were "original" or at least original to the previous renovation and the designer wanted to keep them. Even if that is the case chipped and cracked tiles look bad and can cut people.
The Sarkie's Bar serves good cocktails and beers, slowly, and of an evening seems to attract the diplomats form nearby embassies during Happy Hour after which it gets quieter in every sense.
We enjoyed our breakfasts and a dinner in the Strand Cafe for the quality of the food, especially the Myanmar breakfast dishes, and for the friendly, helpful staff.
And I slept well though some noise penetrated the secondary double glazing. Aircon could be noisy too.
Overall, I did enjoy my stay in this wonderfully historic hotel and if they could right a few irritants and get a pool (the space for it is at the back of the hotel which looks like a builders' dump at present and not pretty) it would get five stars from me.

Expensive but worth it, a beautiful building, well provided for rooms and lovely staff. It's an icon you should visit at least once. There's plenty of teething mistakes on the service side - i.e. they serve canapes in the rooms on arrival, but the one my child was about to eat was clearly off. The staffs are all learning and trying, so be patient and understanding with them. Definitely end any visit to Myanmar with a visit here.
