It was very worthwhile to visit where Aung San Su Kyi spent fifteen years under house arrest - sad but uplifting too!
Cannot see much - just the guard house next to the driveway gate. We were driving past the house so we stopped for 30 seconds to get a picture. Not worth going out of your way to see the gate.
Just another very nice house. Probably included on most tours, but not worth seeking out on your own. She is held in highest esteem by Burmese, and for good reason, so they want to see/show off her house.
You can see the out side of the house
With special permission
You be able
To enter the compound
Not far from the
USA embassy
On university avenue
No need car.
Just walk down the road from
Fuji cafe.
Few hundreds meters
And you arrive to
Aung San Such ie House
We all love her. ....
We had heard that even a few short years ago, taxi drivers and local residents would refuse to show tourists where to find the home of Aung San Suu Kyi for fear of serious reprisals from the military leaders who ruled the country. However, since the democratic national elections in 2015 in which Aung San Suu Kyi's party won a decisive victory, this is no longer the case. While her house is not open to the public, we could walk past the guard up to the gate and he took no interest in us. You cannot see the house itself from University Avenue but if you walk to the promenade at nearby Inya Lake, and ask locals to point out her house from the water side, they will happily do son. This is by far the best way to see her house, even though it is still mostly hidden by shrubs.
You can see the gates of the house.. nothing else.
The gates did however open when i was there but just for a few seconds. so i didnt get to see anything else.
Be aware of the traffic as you need to cross the road.
Try to combine it with a trip to the NLD office branch where you can donate money, buy souvenirs etc.
