Nine Tree Hotel will now be my new favourite base for future leisure trips to Seoul. I like to check out new hotels before it gets colonized by big groups of tourists, while the place is spotless & everything from the tv remote and linen feels brand new & also because the staff are eager to go the extra mile. Hotel rooms in Seoul are never cheap and usually small, so I make sure the location is good & it is a bonus if the place is new.
So it was at Nine Tree Hotel located right at the heart of Seoul's shopping central Myeongdong.

Nine Tree Hotel's standard triple room was good value by Seoul's standards at USD225/night as it had three proper beds each with its own bedside table & light switches - no crummy rollaway extra bed placed against the wall here :). The room decor is functional and minimalist with a cheerful vibe ~ think Holiday Inn Express but much nicer. Nine Tree's closest competitor Ibis Ambassador Myeongdong does not have such a big wall mounted flat screen tv (only a tiny outdated CRT tv), complimentary bottled water in the bar fridge and bathrobes. There Nine Tree's bathroom is also more spacious & has better quality toiletries (from wall mounted dispensers). There's a kettle with coffee/tea bags and free & fast wifi.

For travellers with luggage, the easiest way to Nine Tree Hotel from Incheon Airport is by limousine bus #6015 (₩10,000 one way) and alight at Sejong Hotel, next to this is Skypark followed by Nine Tree Hotel ~ the entrance is just behind the busy Chungmuro traffic junction, next ti Myeongdong Metro Station exit 8. The main lobby for check in is on Level 3 and unlike the Skypark 3 next door, Nine Tree Hotel does have English speaking staff. Our check-in & check-out was seamless. The front desk gave us three maps and a toiletry pouch together with our key cards.

I can't stop raving about Nine Tree's location, right smack along Myeongdong's busy shopping streets which become packed with pushcart vendors in the evenings. There is a Family Mart opposite hotel (for drinks, snacks, phone cards); Starbucks is diagonally opposite the right of hotel exit. First time visitors should drop by M Plaza (along same lane as Nine Tree Hotel) where KR tourist bureau is on L5. Here you can get dressed in hanbok, the traditional attire & have your photos taken. Do not leave Myeongding without trying the Chuncheon spicy chicken at Yoogane ~ a popular restaurant with bright orange signboard along the same lane as the hotel. A 15 minute walk along the main road Chungmuro leads to Shinsegae's flagship store ~ 2 buildings linked by a skybridge; the low rise bldg showcases designer brands (visit L6 skypark where you can get a good view of N Seoul Tower), while the new high rise bldg has everything under the sun including a supermarket at B1 & a food court on L11. Namdaemun Market is right behind Shinsegae. Dongdaemun is only 3 metro stations away from Myeongdong and our taxi ride back to the hotel cost less than ₩6,000.

We like to be at the heart of all the shopping action & have lots of affordable F&B options at our doorstep, so we'll be back at Nine Tree Hotel again in the autumn. The weather will be nice then & we can even walk to the foot of Namsan.

We stayed there from 28 March to 2 April for our Easter Holiday. The location is great, at the centre of Myeong-dong shopping area, 1 min walk from underground exit 8, 3 mins walk from Sejong Hotel (Airport Bus station). Room is very clean and new.
The double bed room we booked was so small and no tooth brushes, shaving kit and shower cap, etc provided unless you call Reception to ask for it. With the price we paid, I think it should be provided automatically and not require the guest to ask for it. The most unsatisfactory was complimentary water in-room. We recognized that they didn't refill 2 bottles of water after room make up in the 2nd day, so we call to reception and ask for 2 bottles of water. They replied that we are entitled for 2 bottles of water for every 4 nights stay. What? I have been travelling around the world and have been staying in 3 stars hotels to 6 stars hotels and never experienced such answer. How much is the bottle of water worth? It's not about money but I believed in it is the least they have to provide to the hotel guests. I think it is ridiculous.
Anyway, I don't think I will stay there again as there are so many choices within the region. But for those who don't care of room size and complimentary water like I do, the location, clean & new hotel rooms are great.

Room tip: Twin room is bigger than double room at the same price.

This hotel probably has the best location in town, few meters from Myeong-dong subway station and your in the heart of the shopping area. Loads of restaurants and bars to choose from. The hotel's lobby is on the 3rd level where you can keep your luggage if you arrive early or leaving late. The Standard Double I had booked was small, but manageable for one person. The bathroom was small but works, and the shower was average. Wifi connection was good. They have a small fridge with complimentary water, and the bed was great! I'd recommend avoiding the hotel breakfast and going to the million coffee shops around!

I stayed at the Nine Tree on Chinese New Year in a Deluxe Twin Room. The size of the room is adequate. You need to bring with your own tooth brush and shaving kits. However, if you really forgot to bring your own toileteries, you can ask the reception to give you!

The hotel breakfast started from 7:00am to 10:00am. It is not worth to eat because the choice of the food is very limited. On the Valentine's day, perhaps they were prepared for the lunch, when we arrive at 9:35am, all food were gone and they just gave us a dish of vegetables with some beacons which was cold.

The location of the hotel is very good because it is just 5 minutes walk from the No. 8 exit of the Myeongdong subway station.

Room tip: Don't choose the breakfast

Nine Tree Hotel was actually a fallback hotel we booked as the first hotel we chose was fully booked when we decided to finalize our trip. It opened Dec.1, 2012 so it really did not have any reviews that we can base our decision on. What clinched it for us was it's communicability thru their Facebook account and the admin was very helpful when we asked several questions. And were we satisfied!
Myeondong Shopping District was at its doorstep, as well as the Exit 8 of Myeongdong Station (Metro). Taxis were also very easy to flag down on the road. As we went on a New Year, going to church was a must for my whole family. Myeong-dong Cathedral was about 4 blocks (5-10 mins by foot)away. Myeongdong Nanta theater was also a few minutes walk away.
We had a bit of problem as some taxi drivers were not familiar with it, but if you just ask them to drop you to the Myeongdong Station Exit 8, the hotel is a few steps down the road. The ground floor has two elevators going to the Reception Area at the 3rd Floor. The staff was helpful to keep our luggage as we were early (add-on charges for early checkins) and we were going sightseeing to pass the time.
Room was small but we were satisfied with it. It was long and narrow but the desk area window looks out to the Myeongdong Shopping district. We were on the topmost floor (Room 1606), not much traffic noise there. The bathroom had a small tub and rainshower with good water pressure. Toilet seats were heated and mechanized. Toiletries were in dispensers, toothbrushes/shaves were available upon request. We usually bring our own when we travel so it was not an inconvenience. Bathrobes and hair dryers were also provided. There is a lounge on the 11th floor were one can use coin-operated massage chairs while waiting for their laundry to be done.
Breakfast had simple fare, repeated daily I think, but we were fine with it. Our 4-day/2pax meal tickets were given in whole, so our family of four were able to eat together for two mornings.
Big +++ for me was choosing an extra pillow of my choice (I got a bean type and my daughter, a cloud type). I was able to sleep really well as it felt like my pillow at home!:-D
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Nanta (Cooking) Theater is walking distance (Foreigners get a 5%disc if booked online). Myeongdong area is full of beauty stores, you can buy your makeup and higher end fashion in the area.

Room tip: top floors offer noise-free rooms. one might avoid rooms near the laundry (11th flr).
