Luxor is a tale of two cities. The East side of Nile is (historically) more developed and like a medium size city. The West side of Nile is the valley of the dead, so its basically a village, all with crops, dirt roads and horse / camel stables.
Most of the attractions (except for the Karnak and Luxor temples) are on the West side, and there is only one bridge to cross the Nile. The location of the bridge is very inconvenient. That's why we decided to stay on the West side.
Alhambra is a nice hotel in the middle of a very rural setting. The hotel is nice considering the price you pay. Staff is very cooperative. We added the breakfast to our stay which was cheap. The rooms were clean, but not like a 5 star hotel. There was no iron or ironing board, so if you need to iron your clothes, you need to drop them at a (nearby) laundry store.
The hotel looks just like the pictures from inside, but its on a small dirt road, with a couple of other similar hotels.
Overall its a good budget option on the west side of the Nile.More
