First time in Mombasa for business reason following my friends suggestions I booked a room. Actually it wasn’t a room they give me an apartment with kitchen living room and a balcony. Everything was good but the bathroom was very poor, dark and not well equipped. I stayed only one night and everything was good just till the check out. In fact they keep me waiting for 20’ for the final receipt even if I already paired the day before. I think they didn’t trusted me about the no consumption from the frigo bar. Due to the wasted time in waiting I arrived just on time for the flight..... I will be back for sure hoping to give the four or five star ....

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and for giving us your candid feedback. We are glad to hear that overall your experience was positive. Although it is disappointing to learn that the bathroom was very poor and not well equipped and that at check out the service was very slow even though you had paid the day before. Your feedback has proved invaluable and we sincerely appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention. We can assure you that we are actively working to improve service levels and we hope you will give us another chance and stay with us again.

I stayed at the Tamarind during a quick overnight business trip to Mombasa in June 2017, and thus was the 3rd tome I stayed at this hotel. Describing the style of the hotel and the rooms is not easy, other than to say it is authentic and gives a greater local flavor than maybe some of the other beach hotels. My preferred hotel in Mombasa. Recommended.

We had a 1 bedroomed suite which consisted of a small but fully functional kitchen, dining and sitting areas, a great patio with views across the creek to Mombasa Island, large bedroom and an ensuite, large shower and ample wardrobe space. One suggestion there should be a shelf or storage closet above the wash hand basis. The attention to detail is really good and the wooden furnishings (finished in a paint effect Provence style) really work and are very comfortable.

The dining room overlooks the creek and they serve a hearty breakfast. The first morning we spoilt ourselves with Eggs Benedict with salmon and omelettes the next morning, and accompanied by good Kenyan coffee. The service was great.

After visiting Fort Jesus and part of the Old Town we returned to relax by a great pool listening to the wind rustling through the palms and looking at dhows and other craft. My wife suggested a couple of Dawas to drink a toast to the sunset. You have to see that to believe it – took us back to the Caribbean. The temperature was about 30C accompanied by a cooling sea breeze.

The view from our patio was stunning so more drinks despite the sun having set. The dinners were at the World famous Tamarind Restaurant but more of that in a separate review. It is in the complex.

The service was excellent and the staff very polite and attentive. They made us feel very welcome. A special thanks to Ales the doorman/bellhop and to Benter for making the booking seamless.

Would we go back – most certainly?

We stayed in an apartment for the weekend at the end of a work trip. Whilst it isn't on the beach there are plenty of other reasons to stay here; beautiful, large apartments, fantastic gardens, 2 big pools on the edge of the creek, peaceful neighbourhood, and incredible food.
There is a wonderful restaurant on the cliff edge for dinner, and both restaurants serve the usual high quality food you expect from Tamarind.
The staff are friendly and helpful and very flexible.

Room Tip: 3 bedroom apartments are huge and very comfortable for families.
