“Good food and atmosphere”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

The hotel recommended this restaurant based on our preference to have Chinese food and made reservations. We arrived at the mall and struggled a little to get to the fifth floor based on the elevator bank we were using. Finally, we found the right elevator and arrived at the restaurant. The hostess mentioned we had an earlier reservation, but I explained to her that the taxi took the long way and we couldn't find the right elevator to bring us up to the fifth floor. In any case, we were taken to our table with no delay.

The menu can be a bit overwhelming when you first look at it, but if you know what you want, then suggest you tell the waiter. He didn't speak much English, but we managed to order duck, prawns and some vegetables by looking at the pictures. Later another waitress came by and recommended another plate which we ordered.

The food was really good, but I must say I've had similar or better elsewhere. The service was also good, but not necessarily the best.

Overall, we had a good experience, enjoyed the food, atmosphere and managed to order some really good plates despite the language. We are glad to have experienced this, but not sure if we would go again.

“Great duck!”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

We visited Beijing and couldn't go without trying this typical dish, we went here because our guide recommended to us. Is a little bit pricey but it is worth it, the duck is delicious, only issue is that waitress doesn't speak english....which is not rare in Beijing!

“Haute Chinese cuisine - An overwhelming experience”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

I had dinner here with a Company of 15 colleagues. We were upstairs in probably the most wonderful room of this fantastic beautiful restaurant. In about 1 hour and a half we were served not less than 20 different dishes including the famous Peking duck. It was an overwhelming experience, each dish being a delicious work of art, a joy for all senses. I Will certainly go back and recommend to everyone visiting Beijing.

“Not a welcoming restaurant, great food but not a good dining experience”
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

One thing that can be said about Da Dong is that it an experience. It was highly recommended by multiple sites and people, but a few said it was a little expensive and the service was not as good as it should be.

I didn’t think the prices were too bad, but its biggest failing was the initial welcome and the person taking the order. We are westerners and despite being the first to arrive in our section of the restaurant we were left waiting while the waitress took care of all the Chinese customers in the restaurant. When I did flag her down her English speaking skills were pretty limited. I would expect this in a family restaurant but not one that is close to large Western brand hotels like the Regent.

The menus are over the-top large and while they are in English they need some interpretation, which we could not get. As a result we ended up with a suckling duck, which had virtually no meat on it by the time it was carved. I think this was purely a breakdown in communications, but I really can’t say we had good Peking Duck while In Beijing, at least not in Da Dong.

Having said all this the waiters and waitresses that served the meal were excellent and clearly the chefs are experts in carving the ducks. All the more reason why we were overall disappointed. It is a very modern restaurant and has everything going for it, but it falls flat when it comes to service, definitely not a welcoming restaurant.
