Arrived in Beijing June 5 for a three night stay at the Guangxi Hotel. The hotel rooms are small, but very clean. Water was provided in our room every day. Te hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Theo hotel breakfast was wonderful. There were a lot of things both Asian and Westenrn to choose from. They also had a station with a chef making fresh eggs. The best part of the hotel was that it had a swimming pool and bowling alley. The children loved it. The hotel is also located beside a hugh grocery store and in the antique district. It was not in the center ofthe city, but it was only about an hour walk to Tiananmen Square, but it was a great walk through the neighborhood. It is not in the hussle and bussle, but it was a very nice hotel in a quiet area.

Spent 3 nights at the Guanxi Plaza at the beginning of a 3-city trip.

Nicely appointed room although we were assigned a single instead of a double. Standard double bed instead of queen or king but still enough space. Could have changed but it meant repacking and we really were not inconvenienced.

Stained carpet and worn upholstery on easy chairs but all comfortable. Small bathroom but extremely clean. Great fixture design. Coffee/tea making supplies in room. Our room was a bit noisy becase we were located next to a marble floored elevator waiting area. Didn't hear voices but heard the footsteps on the marble. This may not generally be a problem but because we had just arrived and had a12 hour time difference,
we were in bed early and up early. The noise didn't wake us but was was obvious while tgrying to get back to sleep.

Very good, interesting plentiful breakfast buffet included in room price. Chinese and Western options. Good variety of fresh fruits. Omelets made to order. Didn't try the other dining rooms.

Management recognized a birthday of one of our group with a card and very generous gift of traditional chinese music CDs. Limited English but they work hard to get an answer to your question. When our telephone charger adapter didn't fit the outlet, they got a transformer for us within 5 minutes of our query.

A bit out of thecenter city between 2nd and 3rd ring roads. Taxis are cheap, just make sure you have address written in Chinese and know about how much the fare is (people at desk can help). Make sure you are paying from the meter. Then close your eyes if you don't like thrill rides. Not especially conveniently located but that meant traffic noise was not interruptive. Across the street from a good sized grocery. Bought snacks there rather than using mini-bar in room. Caveat - they do NOT supply drinking water as we found in our other hotels. We purchased a 12 pack at the grocery for 10.90Y and shared among our group. Works out to 12cents US/bottle.

The first hotel we stayed in on our (first) trip to China. The hotel staff spoke little English but they were always willing to spend time understanding. On arrival checked in and decided to take a cup of tea in the foyer bar - probably the most expensive cup of tea we have drunk in our lives. Not realising the size of Beijing decided to walk to Tiannamen Square, arriving two hours later! Although the hotel is a little way out of the centre it did not cause a problem as transportation is so cheap. Taxis were reliable although we found it sensible to get the hotel staff to write our destination in Chinese to show the driver. With the exception of breakfast we did not eat in the hotel. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and although we ate in some that spoke no English we were always warmly welcomed and had excellent service. Turning right out of the hotel was a small locals bar serving cheap beer with again a warm welcome. Definitely recommend the city and the hotel.
