This is my second time going to this location of the Great Wall this year. My friend and I were luck to experience a blue sky day and no crowds!

Some recommendations:

1. Get a chair lift up and down the Great Wall instead of walking it unless you’re up for a challenge. Personally, this time my friend and I walked down, but this could be difficult with with young children or anyone that may need more support with hiking on uneven areas.
2. Wear good walking/hiking shoes.
3. Some steps are quite uneven. Take your time, be respectful, and don’t rush people in front of you.
4. Bargain for any drinks, snacks, or souvenirs.
5. Wear a hat/bring a parasol.
6. Be aware of weather and air pollution conditions.
7. Drink plenty of water. It will be hot, so a tip is to put a water bottle in the freezer before coming to the Wall. Put that bottle in a cooler type compressible bag to make it last longer. You can also buy water going up, but the cold temperature doesn’t last long if it’s only in the fridge from the vendor.
8. Bring earbuds if you’re hiking for exercise. Some people you may run into may not be your cup of tees with how loud they are.
9. Bring paper for toilet use- just in case the facilities runs out of them!
10. My friend and I actually walked back down instead of taking the lift which was our original plan, and we learned we can refund a portion of our tickets. Try that if you’d like a refund for unused portions tickets.
11. Take your time and enjoy it, especially in a day like I got to experience!!

This is definitely the section of the wall that you should visit. There was not a lot of people that you had to worry about. There were restaurants at the bottom for when you were done. The best part though had to be the slide.

About an hour and a half out of Beijing, this part of the Great Wall is as easy or difficult as you want to make it. A chair lift takes you to the base of ht wall, where you then climb a set of stairs to get onto the wall. There's a beautiful view on a clear day, of the wall and surrounding countryside. We walked a couple of sections but it was very hot that day, so we kept our climbing to a minimum. Still, the sight of the wall snaking up and down the mountains was awesome. Another thrill was taking the toboggan slide down the mountain at the end of the tour. It was terrific. We again used Catherine Lu tours and Jenny again was our most excellent tour guide. After the visit to the wall, she took us to a local restaurant for lunch that was one of the best meals we had in China. We drove from the Wall to the Summer Palace, which was well worth a visit.

Awesome and very important sight. Very much worth the travel and time spent. You walk this section of the wall and end up the visit going down the very nice ride to the bottom of the wall.

Sometimes you think that maybe a famous sight isn't as perfect as you heard, but great wall is a true wonder. We chose Mutianyu and we're happy about it. This is one of the renovated part, but still less crowded. This part unlike the Badaling doesn't have a direct bus from Beijing, but you would make it on your own if you are an early bird. You can climb the wall by bus and steps and cable car. And for climbing down I suggest toboggon, it's really fun. In summer don't forget to bring water, snacks, sunglasses, hats and telephoto lenses.
