I like finding this sort of place - not many reviews but all excellent so far & ours will add to that. The concept is good - bringing in creative chef's from around the globe to showcase their talents. We visited whilst the 2 Chef's from Ku De Ta (Mejekawi) in Bali were doing their thing over a 4 day period in March. The service was good & friendly from the outset & seating around a large communal table on either of the levels encourages some interaction between the guests - especially after a few glasses of wine (we took the paring menu). All of the food was great & guess as they showcase for a few days only they are making sure everything is right. The chef's both came down to help serve some of the dishes & you can see them working in the open kitchen. Some good flavours amongst the well presented plates with the Cod & Wagyu being the outstanding courses for us on the evening. This place is well worth a visit & you can check their web page for upcoming events. The price is reasonable considring the quality on offer.

Three of us attended the test kitchen for the first time last night to try the food prepared by Chef Luis from Tulum. The Test Kitchen is pretty easy to get to from the Sai Ying Pun MTR stop or buy taxi off of Connaught Road. It has three different levels and they do two seatings to take the pressure off of the chef if everyone showed up at once but the first seating can stay as late or long as they want. The price of the meal was $1080 and this included all of the food and all of the drinks. This was one of the best meals and experiences I've had in Hong Kong. The staff kept the dinner flowing very well and Chef Luis and his team came out to tell you what was in every dish (a very thoughtful touch). The crowd was really enjoying themselves and I could hear people trying to get their hands on seconds, us included. It might have been the best margarita I've ever had. The Test Kitchen will obviously live and die by the chef that comes through, the crowd you are with that night (communal tables) and your groups you are with. But if Chef Luis and the Tulum evening is any indication of future performance I can only hope the Test Kitchen will be around for a very long time.

Test Kitchen is a unique concept restaurant that invites guest chefs to cook unique new and innovative menus. Test Kitchen has at least one new Chef per month (sometime 2 or more) who will prepare a menu based on the ideas that they are currently creating. The Kitchen is as much a test bed as it is a launch pad for young chefs to experiment with food ideas before opening their own venues.

The cuisine is a little bit difficult to put a pin in as its ever changing and evolving depending on the guest Chefs. There are far ranging themes from each chef; i've personally tried Scandinavian, Israeli, and Continental/Japanese fusion menus as different events.

The menus are bold...In many cases it works...in a few it doesnt. This is the nature of testing food on the public and one should come with an open mind to try explore the ideas that the Chefs are working on. The guests are actively encouraged to write tasting notes, comments, etc. about both the food and wine pairings.

If your up for a bit of adventure; check out their rotating Chef lineup and book yourself into one of the events. Its a very interesting experience.
