Plumcot is a artisanal shop that makes excellent food items that far surpass your typical Hong Kong bakery experience. This small neighbourhood shop is located along Sun Chun Street in the Tai Hing area of HK Island. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm (Wed to Sun), closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Plumcot is a take-away only place. In short, the focus is on the kitchen and producing delightful small pastries, cakes, breads and other light foods that are presentable and delicious.
We recently stopped by and picked up a few items including a cinnamon roll that was flaky like a croissant with a perfect amount of cinnamon and frost. This was light and tasted wonderful. We also tried their Bostock, an almond and orange brioche that was also light with lovely flavour.
The chocolate cake slice we tried that was pretty good as well. Most impressive of the foods tried might have been the cheesecake which was excellent. The cake was smooth with the perfect texture, sweetness and a slight tart. The slightly sweet graham cracker style crust was just perfect as well. This was one of the very best cheesecakes we have tried in the city in a very long time.
In the end, we were very impressed with our recent visit to Plumcot. This is a rare place in Hong Kong that is worth going out of your way to try if you enjoy fine bakery and boulangerie food items. There really are not many hidden gems here in Hong Kong, Plumcot would seem to be one of them. We very much look forward to a return visit soon.
