I'd never visited Hong Kong before and had heard many horror stories about how tiny the hotel rooms could be so whereas I wasn't looking for a suite I still wanted a decent sized room that didn't remind me of a broom closet.

When researching hotels I noticed there were a wide variety from the expensive Inter-Continental all the way down to a tin shack on the waterfront (HK$80). Prices didn't seem to make sense (e.g. they weren't an indicator of quality) so I finally searched for a hotel based on guest ratings, not price. Right away I noticed that with the Hotel Icon, 86% of their guests rated it 5 stars and another 11% rated it 4 stars, for a combined total of 97%.

I booked the hotel for a week in late November; we arrived after a long flight from LAX and immediately felt welcome. They have a waiting area upstairs with snacks and drinks where you can rest if you arrive before the hotel's check-in time, that was thoughtful.

What we noticed over the course of our stay was how helpful the staff was, from the front desk to the concierge to servers clearing plates in the Market restaurant. We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning - excellent - and on one night tried the dinner buffet as well (HK$823 / US$105 each); $105 for dinner isn't cheap, however it didn't prevent us from trying the buffet and it was very, very good.

I think any time I pay for an expensive buffet I lunge for the most expensive items and was delighted to see plenty of sushi, crab, black pepper crab, sweet Japanese shrimp, langoustine (aka the dreaded Norway Lobster) plus a variety of interesting Asian specific dishes such as snake soup and a peculiar long mollusk that I wasn't about to touch. There are a number of buffets in the US that attempt to fill you up with vegetation and soups first, and the good stuff has always run out, hasn't it? Not at the Hotel Icon; the dining area was large, there were many guests, yet as fast as desserts and sushi and Japanese shrimp were consumed...magically huge platters continued to appear from the kitchen to restock the counters. Just on the food alone I'd give the hotel 5 stars.

Many hotels are all gushy when you first arrive, your Eminence this and your Lordship that, so one of the great indicators of a good establishment is how they treat you when you've been there several days. As the days went by, everyone was always kind, courteous, helpful and genuinely interested in the quality of our stay. At one point I ordered a bouquet of orchids through the concierge, they arrived on time and with no fuss.

Our room was lovely with a sizable bathroom, an interesting shower stall with a curved glass wall, the usual throne (with two flush settings - Turbo and normal) and a great king size bed. In addition to the USB charging station and the free mini-bar, one of the qualities of the room I appreciated was it didn't look worn, all the furniture and surfaces were in very good shape.

Excellent all around!

Room Tip: City view are less expensive than harbor views, but all views are nice

Dear Henry M, thank you so much for taking the time to share this wonderful feedback of #hoteliconhk on TripAdvisor and we are truly humbled by your compliments.

Indeed many guests enjoy our Timeless Lounge for those 'in-between moments', which we are pleased to hear that you had also enjoyed as part of your direct booking hotel privilege. On The Market buffet, it is very popular among both our local and international guests and it has been recognised by OpenRice as the best buffet in Hong Kong for six years running.

Thank you for your thoughtful description of our service. The ambiance here in ICON is familiar and comfortable, a perfect balance of high style yet responsive. Guests feel right at home at all times as our team strives to deliver our Asian hospitality service culture, which is completely natural for them.

Your sharing means a lot to the team at ICON and we certainly look forward to be of service again in the near future.

Wishing you a lovely week ahead.

Sincerely

I have always stayed at Cordis Langham hotel whenever I'm here for work. This time round I came with my 2 kids for leisure and decided to try staying here at Hotel Icon. From the start, there were some hiccups during check-in but was resolved. I booked the Club 36 room with harbourview but wasn't checked in on the 28th floor (which I read the reviews of others)..wondering is it because the room I booked wasn't a suite one..?
The room decor is chic with a free mini-bar which my kids love it. The harbour view from our room was partial but good enough (perhaps would try Club 38 the next time if I decide to come back).

So sorry to hear about the hiccups Karen W, and to clarify, check-in is available on Level 28 for all Club Rooms and Suites. The Club Lounge privileges are always very valued by our guests as the free Happy hour cocktails are mixed by our expert bartenders. As part of the Club benefits, guests also very much enjoy the complimentary afternoon tea along with all day snacks and drinks at the Lounge.

We are delighted to hear that the kids had enjoyed the always-refilled complimentary minibar. Thank you for choosing #hoteliconhk and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back Karen W.

Stayed here for 2 nights on route from UK to NZ. We booked a Club room with Tesla transfer which still seemed good value compared to similar hotels that did not offer the Club benefits.
Hotel was perfect, with superb service and great facilities. The Club room benefits were brilliant - we'd have a lovely big breakfast overlooking the bay, get out and spend the day exploring and then back for free afternoon tea and sandwiches, with enough time to relax before free cocktails and snacks between 6 and 8, before out for the evening.
Overall we had a really special experience and the value for money was better than you expect with all the extras you get with booking Club.
Would definitely come here again, and book Club room again.

Icon is an excellent hotel. Service is attentive and superlative, the rooms are excellent - our view of the harbour was breathtaking-, good breakfast. All details are catered for.
It is exceptionally clean. Staff make you feel welcome and special.
The hotel is linked to the nearby university which provides degrees in hospitality. So whether you are dealing with a seasoned member of staff or one of their students, you are guaranteed an attention to detail which is rare.
I couldn't recommend the Icon Hotel highly enough.
