An old fishing village. Lots of sea food restaurants. There is a waterfront walkway that you can stroll.

Wonderful picturesque fishing village just 10 minutes from HKUST. Local scene with seafood restaurants (most seem to have the same owner), bars and dessert shops and other restaurants. All the waterfront seafood restaurants are good, but there is a bit of difference in the quality. Walk through the small back alleys and take a haircut or massage in one of the small shops. A boat trip on one of the fishing boats is worthwhile, and there is a little temple worth a brief visit; often on weekends there are music/opera performances on the square in front of it. The fresh market is nice to visit too. You can easily spend and evening, afternoon or entire day there --which we have.

Everywhere you look is picture perfect - pristine blue clear waters and colourful boats lined up alongside the shores. You can witness the fishing village where fishermen sell their freshly caught seafood on their sampans, or walk down the street lined with many pop up stalls selling very interesting things, and look at the numerous dogs that roam about freely around this area (brought by their owners, not stray dogs). We also took a boat ride to Sharp Island which was very scenic and worth checking out to take many nice photos as well. First boat leaves at 4pm and last boat returns at 6pm.

Whether you like to ski, surf, fish, canoe, hike, sample local cuisine, or just sit on the beach, Sai Kung has got it all. The water activities, from jet skis to boat tours are available from the main dock and long beach that flanks the Sai Kung town center. For the epicure, there are restaurants to explore from stoops in back alleys to full priced drinks cabanas stretched along the beach. Golfers setting off for Hong Kong's Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course can be seen boarding ferries. Hikers can get on one of the water taxis or junks to be carried to the "hidden causeway" island (where a causeway shows up at low tide) or to the World Heritage geode cliffs.

If you want to just hang out on the beach, a boat can take you out to a quieter one not far from the dock.

This is one of the best days out for Hong Kong if you enjoy staying by the water. There are no hotels here, but some guest houses of various quality may be available. There is some public transportation from the urban center mostly by mini-bus. Or taxis can get there from Kowloon.
