“Nice bread products, good option for budget-friendly, take-away breakfasts”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2013

We continue to make occasional stops at A-1 bakery to pick up some light breakfast breads or pastries, which are generally good value for money compared to many of the restaurant breakfast options around the city.

Recently stopped for a Yuzo Walnut Danish (HK$12) that was light and tasty, would happily try again. Similar breakfast bread products are (HK$8-12). You can also pick up some nice German style loafs (HK$24-32) which are very good and French baguettes and breads (HK$14-22) are quite good as well.

Prices are increased rather substantially over the past couple years at A-1 and other similar bakeries around the city. This is pretty much the case with all products and services so these bakery products remain a very good option for budget conscious visitors as well as those that are tired of Chinese food and simply want some western or local style bread products.

“Das Gute!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

I saw something resembling a doughnut from the window as we were walking by and decided to stop in. The "doughnuts" were not doughnuts as we know them. They were not cake or raised, they were smooth and segmented into perfect bite sizes. They were dipped in chocolate, strawberry or green tea. We picked out a few chocolate and strawberry treats and a few ham and cheese baguettes. The doughnuts tasted like cream puff/eclair dough - a little eggy, chewy, wonderful. The ham and cheese baguettes were large and covered in sesame seeds. They made a terrific lunch during our walk through Hong Kong park. We stopped by a few times during this trip!

“A Great Coffee!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2012

After a few days in HK we were desperate for coffee which was not watery and frankly gross. I typed coffee into google maps and found A-1 right down the street from our hotel. We were shocked to stumble upon not only a fantastic cup of coffee (espresso, cappuccino, etc) but also delicious pastries and breads which we bought and left in our hotel room for snacks in between meals. We went back there every morning for coffee during our entire stay. A fantastic find!

“Nice bread and pastries in the bakery, not so great cafe!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2011

A-1 Bakeries have fanned across Hong Kong and can be found in many area shopping centers. They are our favorite bakery of western type breads in Hong Kong and we often stop there to pick up something light for breakfast or to by a loaf of bread to accompany our dinner at home. Individual breads, cupcakes and pastries generally cost between HK$5-9. This is not the cheapest price for bread but A-1 servings are quite filling so we normally only need to one piece each. Their larger bread selections can run upward of HK$15-20 and can serve 2-3 people.

For those looking for nice bread to eat, particularly if you are getting tired of Asian food or are looking for a filling breakfast without spending so much, you might want to search for an A-1 bakery in the area you are staying in Hong Kong. Its a good choice for breakfast and for those on the go, wanting to eat quick so they can get busy with sight seeing in HK.

As for the Cafes, we dont' find them so appealing. This is not the strong suit of A-1 bakery. Lunches are priced a bit too high for the quality and quantity of food served in their lunch sets in our opinion. Having eaten at the A-1 bakery a couple times, we find it difficult to recommend them for their cafe services. Instead, they are better suited for seeing traditional bakery products.
