My recent stay at the Grant Hyatt went very well. I have previously used the Four Seasons when staying in HK, and the Grand Hyatt compared favorably for purposes of an American business traveler's needs. I would even prefer the Hyatt going forward for purposes of in-hotel dining, as the restaurants at the Four Seasons are excellent but out of my price range.

Stayed here for a week on business. The lobby is majestic -- I was truly in awe at the staircase and the decor. The pool area also was impressive - it looked like a pool that would be at a tropical oasis, not in the middle of Hong Kong.

My room smelled a bit musty + the air was heavy, but I didn't feel like changing it. The rooms themselves were nice and fancy.

Dining: a plus of this hotel. I ate at the Italian restaurant, Grissini; One Harbor Road for cantonese; the Waterfall Bar for quesadillas; and the Grand Cafe. I also had dessert at the Grand Hyatt Steakhouse. I thought the true winner was (perhaps surprisingly) the Hainan Chicken Rice dish at the Grand Cafe -- I'm still thinking about it 2 months later!

Concierge was often very friendly which I appreciated. I didnt think the location was as exceptional as people noted, since you still have to walk a bit to the Wan Chai subway stop, but it wasn't bad either.

Staff was very friendly. Would I come back? Yes, but would also want to try other hotels.

Highly recommend this hotel. It is a wonderful welcome to Hong Kong that consistently delights.

For starters, it's in a great location on the harbor in Wan Chai and central to several points of interest. We walked almost everywhere for casual/sightseeing outings and more formal events (where we didn’t want to arrive dripping and disheveled - it’s HOT in June) were usually a short cab ride away. If you're attending an event at the convention center, this hotel is an especially great option as it’s connected.

We were impressed with everyone from the valets to the front desk, housekeeping, laundry, dining and beyond. This is a hotel where the staff is outgoing, elevating the fine art of service to look effortless. We were especially appreciative of a very capable concierge named Mali, who consistently went above and beyond, helping us get our bearings, booking reservations for excursions - even untangling a shipping debacle. Well done!

The hotel itself is elegant and inviting with a two-story lobby and contemporary decor that features bold mash-ups of marble, granite and glass with high ceilings and large windows that look out toward the harbor. Common spaces are well-designed with several areas to lounge and places to eat at various budget levels (if you’re so inclined, they even have an on-site florist). You’ll even hear live piano music coming from the second story restaurant.

When you arrive early (as many flights from the US do), if your room isn’t ready, you are welcome to shower/freshen up on the 11th floor, which also houses the hotel’s fitness center. Other amenities include tennis and squash, and a beautiful pool with a sunbathing deck and outdoor bar. (BTW, you can get a good look at the nightly harbor lights show from the pool deck.)

The breakfast rooms on the ground floor are open plan and light/bright, featuring a buffet of global cuisines from traditional Chinese dishes to European and American fare - everything from grains and cereals to roasted meats and smoked salmon, cheeses, a wide variety of fresh fruit and yogurt, fresh squeezed juices, made to order omelettes, pastries and more.

Ask for a high floor - even the non-harbor views can be nice. Our room was standard/"studio plan” - open and attractive with a short hallway, large en suite bathroom, and a bedroom area that included a nice sized dining/work table and two chairs, entertainment center and lounge chair with ottoman. The mini bar was well-stocked and a nearby cabinet housed a hot pot, coffee maker, tea pot, cups and glasses. Bottled water was provided gratis, each day.

The sleeping area was a good size for two people and included a very comfortable bed and pillows (note: there is a “pillow menu” in the hotel’s book of services where you can choose from seven different kinds of pillows). The windows include a power solar shade as well as a power black-out shade that came in very handy as the city is bright at night.

The en suite bathroom was generously-sized and included a soaking tub, shower room, toilet room and a wide vanity that was well stocked (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, comb, toothbrush and paste, shaving cream and razor, cotton swabs, shower cap, separate face and body soap bars, a shower loofa, blow dryer). Terry robes were provided along with lots of thick towels which were freshened twice a day.

The hallway inside the room had two closets (including iron and ironing board), one was built out to include drawers. And a programmable safe was available inside one of the hallway cabinets.

The room service menu offers a nice variety of items and the couple of meals I had were yummy and attractively prepared. If you’re looking for simple late night snacks, the Godiva store at the convention center is open until 8p and has an ice cream bar. The Great Eagle covered shopping center (attached by bridges to the hotel via the convention center) has a 7-Eleven convenience store, and the first floor of the shopping center houses a Starbucks and a truly wonderful sushi place called Genki that’s open late.

We really enjoyed our stay and hope to go back!

Room Tip: If you can't get a harbor view ask for a pool view on a high up floor

The hotel rooms come with a really bad smell of mold. It appears to be comibg from the aircon system. I received first a room that was really really bad on the23rd floor with a strong scent of mold. Upon request I received a second one with the same problem. Stayed for 6 nights and after the trip all clothes smell the same.
