Open to public and free admission, Jao Tsung-I Academy is a landscaped historical centre with focus on culture and calligraphy. It is conveniently located just up the hill from the residential area at Mei Foo MTR Station (Exit B). It is like a hub of Chinese arts and culture that has impressed me with a feeling of peace and silence. There are theatre, lecture hall, workshop, conference room, and exhibition halls with guided tours for groups and individuals. Not many tourists know about or interested in visiting this place. It is a place mainly visited by local academic study groups for focus study or attending lectures or conferences. Aiming to explore more about arts and culture, I got an insight of the art of Chinese calligraphy after viewing the displays in the gallery. The small lotus pond and the Bronze Statue of Jao Tsung-i are good spots for taking photos. Had a cup of coffee at the cafe gave me a relax time to enjoy the peacefulness there. At the higher zone of the hill is a heritage lodge that I had not explored. It looked like a retreat hotel.

It was sad that we have only just discovered this gem in crowded Hong Kong, since our discovery in December last year, have been going back whenever we get a chance. Simply amazing that such historical buildings, the Master's life, various other exhibition of the arts and the food in the restaurant exist in Hong Kong. Value for money, closeness to town, everything about this place, only one word to describe it, GREAT!

While you can go on foot from the MTR station, would recommend either taking the shuttle bus, or a short ride on the taxi up the hill.

Tucked along the hillside on three levels, the place has gallery, exhibition hall, cafe, and a small bazaar on Sunday. They do arrange different activities too, apparently a jazz concert in the coming month.
All these were housed inside revitalized heritage building, a job quite well done from the conservation point of view.

There is so much potential, but can see that there is still a lot of room for improvement to make it really into a great place.

For one, there are far too many vending machines which somehow ruin the atmosphere.

And there is indifferent information, description about the history, architecture, and cultural information about this place, I would have expected a book to be published on this.

Worth an afternoon visit.

A cultural resort with exhibition and conference facilities, a restaurant, a Chinese tea house and hotel services. Not something which can be easily found in Hong Kong.

Making a special trip here may be very rewarding if you like Chinese literature and cultural heritage.

In addition to the permanent displays, visiting shows are arranged on a regular basis.

Even has a hostel for those wanting to take it all in.
