snob factor was out of reach to describe. menu was expensive and of mediocre quality. of all the unexpected things to expereince, the hosts of the establishment do not respect the people of the philipines including staff and visitors.

If you want a nice quiet resort to relax for a few days, this is the place for you. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The food was good, though not fast. The owners were friendly, and made a great atmosphere. We did not go out, as we were happy to relax, but there were places to go if you were wanting to.
Disadvantages were the internet was only dial-up and very slow, though I gather this is due to change to wireless soon, and the swimming pool was on the small side.

The hotel is a quaint modern structure run by the owners Virginia and Ian. Their staff are are unequalled in their attantion to the comfort of their guests. The food in the restaurant is diverse and delicious and even if your schcedule doesn't allow an overhight stay you will do well to stop for a rest and a good meal.

Our second trip to Las Flores (the first was for New Year 2009) was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary (yeah, yeah, we were a little slow getting around to getting married!) Arriving for the second time was like a kind of homecoming ... particularly the warm and enthusiastic welcome from owners Virgie and Ian and their lovely staff. The rooms are clean, comfortable and furnished in a way that makes you feel you really are staying in someone's guest room. Our only criticism of the rooms is that they have hand-held showers, which are somewhat cumbersome but our second stay proved to us that, with practice, we can manage them without inadvertently hosing down the entire bathroom!!

On both occasions, we wanted simply to ‘get away from it all’ and to relax and do nothing. Las Flores is the perfect location to do this. It offers no teeming nightlife, busy white sand beach or resort activities but those things are precisely what we wanted to avoid. Meals are served on the wide and gracious terrace which overlooks the sea. Despite the brown sand beach, the vista is endlessly captivating, particularly if you enjoy taking photographs. We found the food to be simple but skillfully prepared and very tasty. Whilst not vast, the menu offers plenty of variety to easily keep the palate interested for a few days. Breakfast in particular is delicious and plentiful! The staff are all happy to do whatever they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

On the night of our anniversary, nothing was too much trouble and Ian and the staff when to great lengths to create a romantic setting as close to perfect as we could have hoped for. We asked if it would be possible to enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the end of the scenic stone breakwater. When we came down from our room we were greeted by the sight of a dream setting – white cloth-covered table for two (see photo) and smartly outfitted staff to bring French champagne on a silver tray. Specially created and beautifully presented complimentary canapés were brought to us and we sipped our bubbly as we watched the sun set, then the moon rise. We moved to another ‘table for two’ on the boardwalk area, right alongside the beach, to enjoy our dinner (with high tide coming, to have stayed on the breakwater would have entailed thigh deep wading – both for the staff and, later, for us!!) After enjoying a delicious meal, with every possible attendance danced on us, Andressa and Janice served a ‘special dessert’ they had created for us then serenaded us with a sweet duet of “Oh, How We Danced on the Night We Were Wed”. A fabulous ending to a special occasion. We couldn’t imagine a more romantic or memorable way to celebrate!

We have visited the nearby hot spring, toured around the northern area of the island, engaged in a little snorkelling and ventured to a nearby German restaurant. But mostly, we have been content to spend our time strolling on the beach (wonderful pickings for beach-combers as the tide recedes), relaxing on the terrace with a good book (or a friendly but competitive game of Scrabble!), discovering new and amazing ways to use our cameras, swimming in the pool or lazing in the hammock. If you are looking for a resort with morning-till-night activities and surrounding night-life, restaurants and the like, Las Flores will probably not be for you. But if you want to take a totally relaxing break, feel pampered and well cared for and return to everyday life feeling rested and energised, it would be difficult to find a better spot. We definitely plan to return!

My fiancee and I spent two wonderful weeks at Las Flores in March and April 2009. Ian and Virginia are excellent hosts, the service and meals were absolutely first class. The room was very clean and comfortable. The scenery in the area is fabulous and the locals we met were very friendly and courteous. However, if you are looking for lots of shopping and nightlife (which we were not) then Las Flores is probably not for you. If you want a quiet and restfull getaway to a tropical paradise then Las Flores is certainly THE place to go!
