Got an irresistible deal for this hotel so proceeded to book a baby-moon staycation for the missus and me. Reading through the numerous 1* reviews here got us a little wary though. Having completed my stay, I'm glad to report that Amara Sanctuary is nowhere near as rough as described by some naysayers here. That said, some of the accusations are probably quite true. The rooms are a tad dated (likely not been refreshed since they opened around 2007), grounds maintenance is not exactly top-notch and there's no seating area in the lobby so any delay in checking in/out would likely require you to stand for quite a while. The Sky pool above most of the rooms seemed pretty nice from my brief visit whereas at the Dream pool, which is a fair walk away but probably more suitable for swimmers like me who actually wanted to clock laps, waters seemed a tad murky. Nonetheless, one might also choose to be an eternal optimist and marvel at the idyllic historic grounds the hotel is nestled in, the pretty good breakfast served at Shutters, the superb location (less than 4min walk to the beach from the open-air carpark and just opposite RWS), convenient shuttle services to Harbourfront MRT and spacious rooms on offer. Service was warm from my short encounters with staff at check-in/out although I must confess my wife and I are not the kind to impose on the hotel...More
