Description: BAKALAKI Greek Taverna dishes out Greek cuisine at its best. Located in the heart of Tiong Bahru, this restaurant and taverna is Singapore's latest Mediterranean hotspot, enriching the city's increasingly sophisticated food scene through the exploration of the rich culinary history and fabulous offerings of the Eastern Mediterranean. BAKALAKI offers the best from regional producers, as traditional ingredients are sourced from authentic Greek suppliers. Taking pride in their culinary traditions, the restaurant also serves authentic seafood specialities from the Mediterranean basin, and a unique selection of Greek wines and beers, that are loved by generations. The Greek heritage and culture is not only encapsulated in the flavour of the food and drink, but also comes through in the welcoming Hellenic nature of the Taverna. Greek culinary treats can also be purchased to take home, and are made available at the restaurant's deli. These delicacies include cheeses, olives, honey, pulses, sauces, herbs, traditional sweets and Greek wines. Both the restaurant and deli are open seven days a week.

We ate here with our daughter. It is an authentic Greek restaurant with many of the staff from Greece and the menu reflects this. Initially we had booked a table for two and our daughter joined us last minute. We were accommodated without any issue although the restaurant was very busy. The food was very good, feta saganaki and kolokithakia tiganates me skordalia (fried zucchini strips with garlic sauce) and spanakopita (spinach and cheese in full pastry). For mains moussaka and lamb chops which were cooked to perfection. With two half litre bottles of house red the bill came to about euro 155 for 3 of us which for Singapore is normal enough. I would eat here again

This is really one of the best Greek restaurants in Singapore. For starters, we loved the tzatziki and the smoky eggplant that were excellent with the hot pita bread. The haloumi which is grilled cheese is a must.
The grilled meats were great but I particularly liked the lamb chops and the octopus.
We had a tasting platter for dessert which were variable in quality. The baklava was a little disappointing this time - A little too overpoweringly sweet. There was a chocolate slice that was superb. Greek doughnuts served with honey and chocolate sauce were unique.
Service was excellent.

A family favorite. Real Greek food in downtown Singapore. The place is a bit out of the usual areas for restaurants, but still very central. Although the surroundings are nothing social the restaurant is nicely decorated, the service is good, and as I said, the food is very good, like the one I used to have when I lived there

I should start by saying that we were not super hungry when we ate here so we did not try too many dishes; I would be willing to give this place another try and to sample different and more dishes.

Pros:
* nice atmosphere, though a little sterile
* pita was decent
* eggplant appetizer was good
* moussaka was quite good

Cons:
* although there were MANY staff standing around and we were seated at the little central bar area, we had difficulty attracting attention
* cocktail came after the appetizers (see first note: it took awhile to get someone’s attention to ask after the cocktail, which I think had been forgotten)
* cocktail was very meh (and expensive) - I think we will skip the booze if we come back
* pita portion is tiny
* appetizers arrived too quickly; the meal generally felt quite rushed
* fava bean appetizer was bland and pretty dry. We added olive oil but the oil wasn’t particularly flavorful
* the looping tape of traditional Greek music started to wear after awhile... the restaurant has a more modern feel - some modern music (even Greek!) would not be amiss...
