A very important part of Orchard road , the building itself is a historical monument of the ancient part of Singapore , it has several antique stores as well as very good clinics.

We walked to the Botanical Gardens all the way from Chinatown. This shopping mall was a great place to stop to shop for snacks and drinks for our visit to the Botanical as well as for lunch before the visit.
We enjoyed our lunch in the food hall (many options from soup to meat as well as fruit).

If you are ever down at Tanglin shopping centre for courses or classes, you can visit the food cafe on level 3 (Chikka Minutes) which serves very affordable and delicious asian lunch sets at $6.50 per pax. However note that it is not halal. They also do takeaways. The other quick lunch place would be the food stall on level 1. Otherwise if you can spend more, visit Steeple's Deli on level 2 for good brownies, cakes, western food or indonesia food at the restaurant on level 4.

Not to be confused (as a reviewer did!) with the more modern, expat-favoured Tanglin Mall up the road, Tanglin Shopping Centre was built (as a luxury mall!) in 1971. It is remarkable that it still survives! What’s also amazing is the diversity of the tenants base: antique shops (from near-rubbish to real-treasure); tailors (same thing); carpet shops (including some beauties); medical clinics (lots), taekwondo, music or tuition classes for children; craft; etc. F&B wise, there isn’t much, except for Bari-Uma Ramen, which is pretty good if you don’t mind the deafening welcome greeting!

Don’t confuse this place for Tanglin mall which is down the road. This mall is an older one with more specialised shops. These include antique and carpet shops as well as ballet, Pilates and Taekwondo studio. It’s not a place one would go just to go window shopping or looking for your chain shops or supermarket.
